Spending time with friends and family, laughing out loud, sweating up a storm, and shopping for groceries and other “needs.” It was definitely a marvelous weekend and I have a strong feeling that this week will be just as marvelous with Thanksgiving quickly approaching! Especially since today is halfway over which means there’s only 1 more day of work and then the holiday break begins 🙂 Thanks Katie for hosting another marvelous link-up!
Marvelous… TJ’s Cranberry Walnut Loaf. Right before Ryan and off to grocery shop yesterday I saw a picture on Instagram of someone’s breakfast that sounded divine- cranberry walnut bread from TJ’s smothered with apple butter [oh yes, oh yum] so I instantly added a loaf of it to our list. I’ve eaten a chunk with every meal since it’s been in our kitchen… With last night’s breakfast for dinner and inspired this morning’s cranberry walnut parfait! I betcha it’ll be gone by Wednesday but that’s totally okay because I’ve got plans to replace the rather bland wheat bread in our sausage-pear stuffing with it!
Marvelous… Ryan’s ankle surgery. Ryan’s turning the big _ _ tomorrow! His present to himself is ankle surgery on Wednesday. I’m totally kidding about the present, but not the surgery. His ankle has been bothering him recently so he went to the doctor and had an MRI. The results showed that many of his ligaments are torn and there’s a bone chip floating around. There’s nothing really marvelous about having surgery BUT it is marvelous is that the surgery should help to alleviate his pain and after 6 weeks on crutches and a few months of physical therapy, he should be back in his normal routine!
Marvelous… White Jacket Required. I’m somewhat embarrassed to admit, but I honestly cannot remember the last book that I have read since I graduating from college… Magazines and cookbooks don’t count. Granted, it’s only been a year and a half and I’ve never been a big reader, which if I were to guess is because I had to read so many textbooks and mandatory books for school, but lately I’ve had a strange desire to read. Yesterday I picked up a book that I’ve heard good things about, White Jacket Required by Jenna Weber [aka the blogger behind Eat, Live, Run].
Marvelous… Lululemon pants. No explanation needed. I heart Lulu. Stretchy pants and workout clothes are my go-to if I’m not dressing for work. I’ll betcha $100 that if you randomly bumped into me on the street I’d be wearing a pair of stretchy pants. And yes, I’m aware that they’re rather pricey [I swiped my debit card, I saw the total], but they are so. freaking. comfortable. AND they come in LONG. One of the hardest things for us tall girls is to find pants that fit in the waist and length- usually it’s either the waist fits and the length is too short, or the waist is too big and the length is perfect.
Marvelous… Inner peace. Last Friday I was in a funk for no real reason. The littlest things seemed like the biggest things and I knew it but that didn’t matter at the time. I was being silly and recognized it but I still couldn’t shake it. When I woke up Saturday morning it was a new day and I had a new attitude. I read the following quote this morning and it’s exactly what I needed- it’s beautiful, powerful, encouraging, and a great reminder…
“I am slowly but surely coming to the conclusion that physical, mental, and emotional health cannot be obtained by changing your appearance. It cannot be obtained by seeking external validation. Having overall health means finding the light within you, and knowing that it is yours and yours alone. No one can take it from you, or shame you out of having it. No one can extinguish the light, because even the faintest glow is there. Your body is not what defines you, but rather an external representation of your internal light. You should want to obtain beauty on the outside, not because it is what is expected but, because you love yourself so much that you want the world to see you; and know that you deserve to be seen.”
Marvelous… “Ho Hey.” Awesome song by The Lumineers!
Marvelous… Registered racer. Within 15 minutes on Friday I registered for 2 DC races next spring: the Nike Women’s Marathon Half and the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon. I won’t find out if I was randomly selected to run in the Nike Half until mid-December but I’m definitely running in the R’n’R race so I want to start thinking about training. I’ve had many failed attempts of running a half-marathon in the past due to health hiccups and I don’t want that to happen this time. I’m holding myself accountable to training healthfully, both physically and mentally. It also helps knowing that I’ll have a few partners who are also running it with me such as my BFF and this girl and this girl!
“Trade your expectation for appreciation and the world changes instantly.”
Question: How old do you think Ryan will be? Hint: I’m 23 and he’s older than me…
Question: What’s marvelous about your Monday?
