WIAW: Spinning Out of Control

This morning around 4AM I woke up sweating from a bad dream.  What I remember is that I was driving in a car [with no passengers] and was stopped at an intersection.  After looking both ways and didn’t see anyone coming, I proceeded to cross.  All of a sudden, I looked to my left and there was a car coming.  It plowed into the backside of my car and my car started spinning out of control.  I immediately woke up, shot up in bed, and couldn’t get back to sleep.

I’m guessing that dream stemmed from the worries I’m having about Ryan’s surgery this afternoon.  I know that it’s on his ankle and they’re not going anywhere near any vital organs, but there is always risk involved in surgery and I don’t like that.  I don’t like when things are out of my control [i.e. spinning out of control] and welp, surgery is certainly out of my control.

frozen berries & peanut butter pancakes topped with cinnamon Chobani + walnuts + fresh sweetened cranberries + maple syrup

I’m beginning to think that hospital visits are becoming a holiday tradition in our family.  Last year Ryan had an appendicitis and this year it’s his ankle.  Next year I told him it’s my turn but for happier reasons- hellooo parenthood.  Read: I am KIDDING!  Absolutely and totally JOKING!  Just trying to lighten ze mood!  Sorry momma and Ryan if I caused you a slight, momentary scare 😛  That’s still a few years away.

Moving onto yummier thoughts, What I Ate Wednesday [WIAW].  I’ve been feeling snacky and loving cranberries + walnuts lately…

Thanks Jenn for hosting another tasty link-up!

always gotta end the day on a sweet note *holy cranberry, these. cookies. are. awesome!*

Ryan’s surgery isn’t until this afternoon so we’re about to head out to Target for some retail therapy.  I’m planning to pack a lunch and bring my computer for some blog reading while his ankle is getting all fixed up.  I hope all y’all traveling today stay safe and out of traffic.  And most likely I won’t be on the computer tomorrow so I hope y’all also have a wonderful and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

Question:  What’s your favorite holiday combo?  I was all about pumpkin this fall but chocolate + peppermint and cranberries + walnuts are tasting mighty fine nowadays!

Question:  When you’re stressed or worried, do you get bad dreams?

Whatcha Think?

  1. Boy, you found some fun items at Trader Joe’s! I’m going today–I love shopping there! :)

  2. I’m sending lots of good energy and thoughts your way! I know that seeing a loved one have to endure surgery is one of the hardest things. I’m glad Ryan has a loving, supportive partner to help him through it <3

ps – I have never tried PB puffins and I refuse to buy them because I know I'll love them too much and eat the entire box!!!

    • Aw, thank you SO much from the both of us!!! And you have to buy a box, but yes, you probably will love them and want to eat the whole box in one sitting- they’re delic 😛

  3. I’m sure your husband’s surgery will be just fine! Someone once told me that bad dreams are a way for our bodies to get rid of negativity, bad vibes or worries. So think of it as a release for you…maybe? hehe!

  4. dude I want all your snacks. man they are making me drool over here! I hope all goes well with the surgery and he will be in my thoughts all day.

  5. Is it weird that I totally love rice cakes?? They are so simple, but topped with a cheese spread wedge and jam….mmmm, so good!

I am allll about the pumpkin this year. I just cannot get enough!

When I am stressed or worried about something I am lucky if I dream at all because I usually can’t sleep! :(

    • I heart rice cakes too- they’re a great [plain] base for some awesome spreads like dips, hummus, and just what you said [cheese + jam]! I usually don’t sleep well when I’m stressed. I can fall asleep but I can’t stay asleep because my mind is racing…

  6. AWE sorry to hear about your dream. That sounds nuts and I hope you are able to get some worry free rest and hoping his surgery goes well!

  7. wow those pancakes look amazing! so much good stuff!

  8. will you go shop at TJ’s for me? I’ll pay you! hehe. and now everyone is gonna think your pregnant! LOL!

  9. I am wishing Ryan well – like you said I’m s ure he’ll be fine but youre right any situation we can’t control is scary! In other news, you’re my breakfast idol. Seriously, I look forward to seeing your bfast on IG each morning! That lunch is great too. I love a varied lunch like that.

    • Thank you from the both of us! And thank you for the breakfast compliment, you’re wayyy too kind! I heart snacky meals- you get a bite of everything you want!

  10. I hate that you had a bad dream!! I always have bad dreams when I’m stressed or worried. I’ll be praying for him and praying for a quick recovery!

  11. Those peppermint cupcakes look amazing! And I picked up some pumpkin ravioli too, but haven’t had a chance to make it just yet.

I am always a huge fan of pumpkin, but maybe sweet potato with brussel sprout & cranberry (I have an odd taste). As for the Christmas holidays, I can always pair some chocolate (preferably dark) with peppermint. It just has to happen :)

I didn’t use to get bad dreams until recently. Strangely I haven’t been able to sleep much either and don’t know why. When I was in high school, I could sleep all the way through the night, probably because of all the sporting activity I was involved in. Now, I tend to get bad dreams when I am stressed, worried, or anxious about something.

    • I didn’t buy the pumpkin ravioli since I was shopping for Thanksgiving fixings, but I’ve heard great things about them so I’ll definitely be going back this weekend to get a box! Ooo, that sweet potato combo sounds good [not odd hehe]- I love savory + sweet :)

  12. Sending thoughts and prayers your way! Ryan’s surgery is probably over by the time you get this, and I hope that you’re both doing well <3 <3

I definitely get all sorts of crazy when I'm stressed out. Seriously, having a dream where I got into an accident would scare me so, so badly – that's like one of my worst fears. So let's talk about happier things! Food. Fall was all about apples for me, and now I'm looking forward into dipping into the chocolate and peppermint combo. Can.not.wait to start experimenting with Christmas cookies 😀

    • Thank you so much from the both of us! My mind goes wild when I’m anxious or stressed- I need like a “stop” button 😛 Ooo, apples were definitely another fall favorite! And I LOVE cookie exchange parties, so many good sweets and good company, what’s not to like?! We should totally do a virtual cookie exchange somehow…

  13. I was so about to buy those cookies today at TJ’s, but I knew it wouldn’t be a very good idea having those around. :)

  14. Ah, I’m sure Ryan will be okay. Don’t worry <3 I hate nightmares though, I know what you mean.. I have some recurring ones but I never really think to figure what they could mean. Anyway, your food photography is amazing, especially the first pic – oh my gosh! Wow!

    Have a great evening!

    • Thank you so much! And I’ve had a couple reoccurring nightmares since I was a child too but I’ve never been able to understand what they mean… Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  15. Girl, TJ hooked you up with some amazing goodies. If only we had TJ out here in Kuwait :( :( :( Anyways, as always though everything looks amazing! Happy Thanksgiving.

Oh, and I hope the mans surgery went well <3.

  16. I hope the surgery went well this afternoon! I’m sending healing vibes to Ryan, and happy/calm vibes to you! <3 You both deserve an entirely stress-free (and hospital-free!) Thanksgiving today. <3 <3

Let's talk about those pancakes. THOSE PANCAKES! What's your secret recipe, girl? I have my stand-by's, but I'm always ready to try a new mix–especially if it contains peanut butter!

My favorite holiday flavor is…brace yourself…eggnog! I know many people don't like it, but nutmeg + vanilla is a dreamy combination for me. I bought Whole Foods' eggnog ice cream yesterday, and had planned on saving it until after Thanksgiving, but couldn't help but sneak a "preview taste" today. The verdict: amazing! 😀

    • Thank you from the both of us!!! Hehe, no secrets, just some fun in the kitchen that usually turns out tasty and not a flop 😛 Ooo, I totally forgot about eggnog- I agree, nutmeg + vanilla is a fabulous combo! My momma makes homemade eggnog and it’s delic!

  17. Aww, hope the hub’s surgery went well! I love the cute little note you left for him! Nothing like love notes packed with treats! :)

I’m totally with ya on the cranberry/walnut obsession lately…can’t stop, won’t stop! Those cookies sound amazing! And as always…totally drooling over the pancakes m’dear!

    Happy WIAW!
