WIAW: Inspiration from Julia

I truly enjoy being in the kitchen, chopping and dicing, tasting and testing.  Cooking calms me…  When I have time.  During the week 30-minute and semi-homemade meals are more my style.  Just because something takes hardly any time to make or uses no more than 3 ingredients does not mean it isn’t tasty!

Breakfast

Folgers vanilla biscotti cappuccino, frozen berries, & a pumpkin pie spice waffle topped with pain yogurt + peanut butter frosting + pistachios + raisins

simple spinach salad, red Anjou pear, & acorn squash + baked chicken tenders + slivered almonds

Afternoon Snack

green apple, light mozzarella string cheese, & Kashi Go Lean + Peanut Butter Puffins

cauliflower loaded salad, sunny eggs with parm cheese, & cranberry walnut bread with a schmear of peanut butter

  2. I love the wisdom from Julia in this post. :)

    I love to cook so I try to make the time to cook 2-3 more elaborate meals per week and then eat simple meals/leftovers for the other days. I just love the feeling of cooking myself a good meal after a long day!

    As for eggs, I like mine fried with a runny yolk or scrambled, as long as there’s no milk added in. They taste better when they’re made of just eggs!

    • It sounds like we have similar cooking styles ;) I need to get better about eating leftovers… I’d rather make something quick and simple than eating leftovers, but I should start cooking more basics such as pasta, etc. and making a new a meal out of them!

I wish I had time to cook more, you make me want to. i really only eat a full meal for dinner and I don’t really cook it, i mean i usually roast veggies but the rest is either heated or oven baked. one day I will get really into cooking. I love doing it so when I am home i take full advantage of it. also doesn’t help that i have a bare kitchen.

    • That still counts as cooking! If you’re doing something = semi-homemade ;) There’s no problem with getting a little prep help from the grocery store such as pre-cut veggies or pre-baked chicken breasts!

  4. You make cooking look so easy and fun. But when I get in the kitchen I feel like a trapped and confused puppy! The Julia Child quotes made me smile – I’m putting the last one up at my desk at work :)

    As for eggs, I prefer mine scrambled or hard boiled. Not a fan of the runny yolk!

  6. I love cooking, too! But during the work-week, I rely a lot on what I call KISS meals: Keep It Simple, Silly!

    • Um, THANK YOU?! No way jose haha :P I’m guilty to admit that 90% of my pictures are taken using my handy dandy iPhone. I have 2 Sony’s [a DSLR and a point-and-shoot] that should get more use…

  8. That little pouch holding your panda puffins – so cute! Where did you find it? How do you wash it?

    • Thanks! I got it a few years ago on Etsy [I need to get more!], they’re reusable lunch bags :) Just run them under the faucet and ta-da, clean! You can also put them in the washing machine.

  10. I love this post! Does Starbucks have sugar free peppermint syrup? I have to get some! I bought the Target brand but am not sure I’m loving. I just ordered peppermint stevia and am hoping that will be good!
    I’m a scrambled egg white only fan. Ever since being pregnant, I can’t handle the yolk!

  11. I should NEVER come to your blog when I am hungry, just not a good idea! YUM! You always have the best looking meals that are actually MEALS! You sometimes see meals on other sites and it makes you think you eat way too much because their plate seems so little and little food, lol!

    • Thank youuu :D Haha, I know what you’re talking about and I always wonder how those people function on such little fuel?! I should note that I *try* to take a picture of all my eats for WIAW but sometimes I give into my rumbling stomach without thinking [aka the unpictured VitaTop]…

    I used to kind of love cooking, but lately it’s become the bane of my existence. I love to -eat- home cooked meals, but I don’t much enjoy having to put the work into making them :lol:

  13. cooking calms me too! I love it. I would cook all day if I could. :) I love me some scrambled eggs… I can’t do the drippy egg. I just can’t bring myself to eat it! lol

  14. Cooking is my stress relief! I could spend all day cooking! Eggs for dinner are AMAZING!! Actually breakfast food is amazing for any meal of the day! All your meals look delicious! Have a great night girl! :)

  15. Some of the best meals are only 3-4 ingredients.

    I love my eggs hard boiled but when I feel like treating myself I make soft boiled eggs and load them with pepper.

    I absolutely love to cook but never really realized it until I became a vegetarian this year.

    My favorite way to eat eggs are sunny-side up or scrambled.

    I either like my eggs scrambled or in the form of an omelet. I’ve tried the runny eggs, and ehh just not a fan.

    • Thanks! I ordered a few on Etsy a few years back and think I should get a few new ones soon… Ooo, yes, omelets are a fave too! Load up those veggies + a sprinkle of parm cheese + salsa :D

  19. Yum, waffles! I envy you that you like to cook. I guess I feel like I have to cook so it’s a chore. I do like to bake though…probably because I like to eat sweets!

  20. Yummmm waffles :) All of this food is making me hungry! Too bad, too, since I’m about to go work out. You’ve given me lots of inspiration for foods I can make though!

    • Haha, I seem to always look at food-related posts right before I workout and suddenly would rather snack than sweat :P Orrr watch the Food Network while I’m working out and I cannot wait to get home an into the kitchen!

    • Thank you for the sweet comments, you seriously are wayyy too kind! I often think I eat too plain or too simple to keep up with all of the delicious looking recipes I see online :P
