Thursday Thoughts & Questions

Yesterday was a “rest” day on my training schedule but I wasn’t feeling all that tired so I popped into a yoga class…  Well, it’s been confirmed that I am the biggest ADD yoga student [yogi?].  15-minutes into class I was wondering how much longer, wishing the woman to my right would stop picking underneath her toenails whenever we bent over, and wondering why the guy to my left insisted on breathing heavier than a woman giving birth.  60 minutes of stretching felt like forever.

My mind is still going 100 different directions today so what better than a brain dump…

Thought…  I’ve been awful at remembering to take my medicine and vitamins.  I usually forget until right as I’m walking out the door so I end up putting them into my pocket and taking them when I get to work.

Question…  How do you remember to take your medicines and vitamins?

Thought…  I tried the Peanut Butter Oatcake recipe in waffle form yesterday for breakfast and it was a success!  But, I think I like pancakes better- their smooth surfaces are easier to slather with toppings [specifically crunchy PB].

Question…  Which do you prefer- pancakes or waffles?

Thought…  Ryan has his first PT [physical therapy] appointment for his ankle since his surgery tonight.  Fingers crossed he’ll be completely off of his crutches by the end of next week!

Question…  Have you ever traveled using crutches?

Thought…  I have the Vocabology app on my phone and today’s Urban Dictionary word of the day is “healthy gas.”  I laughed out loud for a few minutes.  If it’s healthy that means it’s okay, right?  I’ll need to remember this for future situations.

Question…  Do you giggle when someone says “fart” or “poot” or whatever you call it?

Thought…  I was running a bit behind this morning so in order to make up for lost time I chose between brushing my hair or brushing my teeth.  I chose the latter and brushed my hair when I got to work.

Question…  Which would you choose- to brush your hair or to brush your teeth?

Thought…  Yesterday’s bagel sandwich, stacked with TJ’s  Mediterranean Greek Yogurt Dip + roasted turkey + a portobello mushroom cap, was made on a whim but was surprisingly super delicious.

Question…  What’s the tastiest surprise that you’ve made recently?

Thought…  I’ve been carting around our Christmas decorations in my trunk since January 1st when we took them down.  I need to drop them off at my momma’s house, but I’m kinda enjoying the sound of jingle bells every time I turn the corner.

Question…  When do you take down your Christmas decorations?

Thought…  I received a pair of Oakley’s yesterday from winning Lindsay‘s giveaway a couple of weeks ago.  They couldn’t have arrived at a more perfect timing, we’re down to single digits till the cruise!

Question…  Sunglasses- do you buy cheap pairs or shell out the big bucks?

Thought…  I’ve got a dentist appointment scheduled for Monday bright and early at 7:15AM and I am dreading it.  Although, I am interested in talking to them about potentially starting Invisalign, despite having braces 3 times in the past.

Question…  Have you ever had Invisalign?

Thought…  Last night ended on a super sweet note with a cereal concoction that was topped off with one of the Pumpkin Coconut Oat Muffins + dark chocolate chips + whipped cream.

Question…  What’s your typical “last bite” of the day?

Thought…  This weekend’s forecast is predicting 60 degree temperatures, sprinter [spring + winter] has officially returned.  I’ve got 9 miles on the calendar and couldn’t be more excited to run those miles outside versus on the dreadmill!

Question…  Do you prefer warm or cool weather?

  1. i like waffles better than pancakes for the same reason you like pancakes better – i love how toppings in waffles get in the little crevices and melt so good…oh man. i also like pancakes a lot though. i haven’t been making either and i need to get on that in a big way. i am super jealous of your cruise. i know i was just in miami but man, i could really be just fine with a week off work just laying on a beach.

  2. I only take a probiotic and magnesium, which have to be taken with food, so they sit right out in the open for me to remember to grab to take while I’m eating breakfast. That and I remember how crappy I feel if I forget to take them…lol.

    • I just started taking those last weekend! And I don’t wanna jinx anything, but I haven’t had any digestive issues since… Fingers crossed it’s more than just a coincidence :)

  4. I’m terrible about taking meds/vitamins, too. I’ve found that leaving everything next to my bed and taking it at night right before I go to sleep ensures that I don’t miss a day. Also, it helps keep away a tummy ache from taking vitamins without food – by nighttime, you’ve got enough in your system that it should keep nausea at bay. Good luck!

    • Oh, that’s a good point! I luckily haven’t experienced any tummy trouble when taking the meds/ vitamins, just have a hard time remembering to take them :P

  5. Haha this entire post made me giggle. I love every single one of these thoughts. The healthy gas one really got to me in the worst way. Laughing at your internship while reading blogs is probably not the smartest way to get a good recommendation… whatever. I’m not sure which I like better, pancakes or waffles. I like them both. But there’s really nothing like a big stack of pancakes. Your dessert looks pretty delicious (so does the bagel sandwich. Man I could go for a bagel right now…) but I always end my day with dark chocolate and caramel. I don’t know why, but it just satisfies me like nothing else. HOWEVER… I think I need to reintroduce froyo into my life. It’s been far too long. A trip to orange leaf is in order for tomorrow.

  6. I have been loving yoga lately, but occasionally I have those ADD days too. I am totally guilty of the healthy gas..it sucks. Literally everyday. It’s a miracle I still have a boyfriend hahaha. I never had invisalign, but I had braces and I loved them. WARM but not HOT weather for me! Always end the day with something sweet..like cupcakes.

    • Haha, I feel the same way… Ryan definitely puts up with a lot of my “healthy habits” :P And yes to warm weather and sweets at the end of the day, both are fabulous!

  7. I am not a huge fan of waffles or pancakes but if i had to pick pancakes for sure. I can’t do slow yoga classes for that reason unless it is heated. I am not a huge yogi but do like my power flows and bikram when I have the time.

    • Ooo, what’s power flows? I loved the few times I’ve done bikram in the past and would love to do it more often but that’s an added expense when these yoga classes are free at our gym… I’ll have to be on the lookout for bikram deals!

    I put my medicines and vitamins where I keep my face lotion, deodorant, ect. If it’s right in my face, I remember to take them!

    I love pancakes, for sure. Waffles are great, don’t get me wrong, but there’s nothing like a fluffy, perfect pancake.

    I broke my foot while visiting family in Utah, so I’ve had to deal with crutches in an airport, and trut me, it’s not fun.

    Haha, unless it’s it an original context, “fart” doesn’t really do it for me.

    • Oookay, so I first put my meds/ vitamins in the medicine cabinet in our bathroom thinking that they’d be in front of my face and hard to miss BUT then I never have a drink to take them with… Now they’re in the kitchen but they’re in a drawer that we hardly use. I need to find a better spot.

  9. I hear you on the pancakes thing, but sometimes a waffle is exactly what the doctor called for ;) I haven’t had to travel on crutches but I did have to work with kids and go to a concert on them…sooooooo not fun, so fingers crossed they’re gone asap!

  10. Hahahha I have ADD Yoga brain too. And I remember to take my vitamins because they’re delicious gummy ones and I always want them ;) haha

  11. Haha! I loved all these little tidbits. I’ve definitely had that experience with yoga. It’s like people forget how to breathe or something! I use an alarm on my phone to remember my pills. Pretty sure my family is starting to get annoyed when every day at 7 it goes off throughout the house. Oh well :) All of your food looks awesome! Have a good Thursday!

    • Haha, breathing and stretching is hard work :P I definitely felt more sore yesterday after yoga than I did after my run earlier this week… And thank you, I hope that you have a wonderful weekend :D

  12. I used to be really bad at taking my pills, too. But eventually I started setting an alarm on my phone to remind myself, and after using that alarm for a while (like a year), I just always remember. I also keep my pills in a bright purple pill container (one of the days of the week ones) and keep it next to my bed so that I see it when I’m going to sleep (which is when I take them). I think I’ve maybe forgotten to take my pills only three times last year!

  13. Ack so many questions! Okay. Waffles over pancakes – I prefer a little crunch. I don’t giggle when someone says fart, but I DO giggle if I hear one go off :lol: I’d definitely brush my hair – bad breath is one of the biggest turn offs (the other being BO). Christmas decor? Usually down around the 6th or 7th. Sunglasses? I shell out the big bucks and baby them forever. Never had braces, but holy.wow three times? I feel sorry for ya girlie :( Aaaaand my day usually ends with yogurt, cereal, and fruit… the same exact way as it starts :D

    • Ew, totally agree about bad breath and bad B.O., yuck :P I had braces when I was in elementary and middle school as a 2-stage process… Then I hardly wore my retainers and begged my parents to get them on again for a few months in high school… And now my teeth are fine but I lost my retainers and my insurance covers it so I’m thinking I might as well take advantage of the opportunity!

  15. I weirdly never forget to take vitamins and medicine. I just always take them in the morning when I’m drinking coffee and can’t remember the last time I forgot. Never had invisaline, but I wear my retainer every night still :D

    • Whelp, you totally make up for the things that I forget to do :P I never wore my retainers so I begged my parents for braces again [3rd time] in high school… Hopefully I’ll remember to wear my Invisalign retainers if I get them!

  16. So many questions!! ;) My favorite one that I want to answer is what is normally my “last bite” of the day. Generally speaking, it is usually something salty like Pop Chips, lentil chips, popcorn, or rice cakes. I guess my body just craves some added salt at the end of the day! ;)

  19. Hahaha I’m the exact same way in yoga class! 60 minutes is way too long for my attention span.

    I prefer pancakes to waffles! But that’s only because I don’t have a waffle maker, so I haven’t had waffles in years. I miss them!

    • Haha, I know, right? Maybe if it was 30 minutes I’d be okay. And it’s not like you can just walk out because it’s so quiet and everyone would stare at you :P Yup, that though has crossed my mind…

  20. I put my vitamins in the same cabinet as my coffee cups so I see them every morning when I go to get my coffee. Although I still forget from time to time. The Healthy Fart definition is hilarious! My son has just started to toot (as we call it) and laugh about it or get a silly look on his face. Now he’s even starting to say, “I tooted!” So funny!

    • That’s where I moved them to, hopefully I’ll remember to take them since I never seem to forget my morning cup of coffee :P And oh my goodness, that’s TOO[t] cute haha!

  21. I haven’t had a bagel sandwich in forever, used to be obsessed with those things! I am pretty terrible at remembering to take my vitamins awful, wish I had some advice but I’m probably way worse off than you haha, and I wish I had a waffle maker to make more homemade waffles, but if I had to choose, I’d pick pancakes!

    • After reading all of the comments above, I’m gonna try setting an alarm as a reminder… We’ll see if it works :P And if you really want one, waffle irons are super cheap at Target or Bed, Bath & Beyond!

  22. I’m so bad at yoga too! All I can think the whole time is, “Is this over yet?” Not exactly a productive/calming way to spend my time. And I’m totally a pancake gal. But mostly because you need fancy equipment to whip up a waffle.

    • Nope, but I bought a pair of Coach sunglasses a few years ago and love them! They’re my only fancy pair, all others are cheapos in case I lose them :P

  25. I keep my vitamins next to my coffee so they are right there every morning when I make my coffee! I take the vitamin out when I get my coffee out and put it right next to my breakfast so I will see it.

  26. Protein pancakes, but carb-based waffles for me … I know, so weird!! haha. Definitely brush my teeth, and trust me, I make the decision so often my hair brush is now kept in my backpack. ;) The jingle bells are sooooo cute!! And my sunglasses?? From a lost & found .. I’ve never paid for sunglasses.
    You are going to have SO. MUCH. FUN. on your cruise!! I’m excited for you!!! :D

  27. Those sunglasses are SO cute! I always buy cheapie pairs, because I tend to lose/crush them.

    Also, I set an alarm on my work calendar that says, “Take your multivitamin!!”
