Just Do It {Playlist}

I read somewhere sometime way back when, that running tests both your physical and mental strength.  I couldn’t agree more.  With my runs getting longer and longer each weekend, it’s getting harder and harder to get myself out the door.  I love running, it’s the one time my mind gets a chance to completely check-out and wander, but sometimes it’s a battle to get to that point…  Thankfully, a good playlist can ease the nerves.

I haven’t downloaded many tunes lately and have been relying on Pandora, so Sunday morning I was in a time pinch.  I quickly scanned through the top tunes and came up with the following playlist…

Anything Could Happen” by Ellie Goulding

“Back in Time” by Pitbull

“Beauty and a Beat” by Justin Beiber featuring Nicki Minaj

“Blow Me [One Last Kiss]” by P!nk

“Brokenhearted” by Karmin

“Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen

Catch My Breath” by Kelly Clarkson

“Die Young” by Ke$ha

“Don’t Stop the Party” by Pitbull featuring TJR

“Hall of Fame” by The Script featuring will.i.am

“Ho Hey” by The Lumineers

“I Cry” by Flo Rida

I Knew You Were Trouble” by Taylor Swift

“It’s Time” by Imagine Dragons

“[Kissed You] Good Night” by Gloriana

“Little Talks” by Of Monsters and Men

“Oath” by Cher Lloyd featuring Becky G

“Scream & Shout” by will.i.am featuring Britney Spears

“Starships” by Nicki Minaj

“Stronger [What Doesn’t Kill You]” by Kelly Clarkson

Try” by P!nk

“Va Va Voom” by Nicki Minaj

“Want U Back” by Cher Lloyd

“We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” by Taylor Swift

“Whistle” by Flo Rida

“Wild Ones” by Flo Rida featuring Sia

I can’t say that I was a big fan of all the tunes, but they all had a pretty catchy beat and provided rhythm to my feet for the whole 9 miles 😛

Question:  Do you make playlists for your runs/ workouts?

Question:  What’s your favorite workout song?

Whatcha Think?

  1. Such a solid playlist! I could sing all of those songs word for word. I’m weird, and actually never run with music – not even for races! The only time I listen to music is when I’m at the gym…not sure why. I think it’s because I’m too lazy to make playlists…good thing I have you! <3

  2. I’m obsessed with that Ellie Goulding song. I totally run to that song all the darn time!

  3. A good music playlist is absolutely essential for me to have a great run and/or workout. I generally pick up-beat songs that keep me moving, motivated, and mentally distracted from the pain. I am fairly certain that I could listen to “Call Me Maybe” over and over again ;). So bad, yet SO addicting!

    • Agreed and agreed! CMM will forever be in my memory because it was the song my wedding party and I had playing for when we walked into our wedding reception 😛

  4. let’s just say you are going to die when you see my post tomorrow…. great minds think alike

  5. You’ve just named so many of my favorite songs. Anything could happen- new fave. Call me maybe? A classic. I don’t listen to music anymore when I run but I have to agree that the minute I started running longer, I found it more difficult to motivate myself to go. And that’s sad, because I do love to run. Maybe I need to start coming up with some more playlists to get me through the longer days.

  6. I’m addicted to listening to Some Nights by Fun. when I run. Something about it totally works for me.

  7. I am totally DYING for more songs to add to my playlist for the marathon this weekend!! You have an amazing list…I have ALL of these songs on my list too! I am so glad you are finally able to start getting in some longer runs! Have a great night!

  8. I ALWAYS have music when I run haha…I’ve tried to run twice without it and it was an awful experience both times haha…need to the music to keep me going sometimes, especially through tough spots…I think you picked some great songs, including many that I have on my running playlist…I think my favorite thing to run to right now is “Let’s Go” by Ne-Yo. I also enjoy “Gangnam Style” (always makes me laugh when it comes on which is desperately needed at times) and “Now or Never” by Outasight :)

  9. Great playlist! I haven’t listened to my iTunes in so long! I usually alternate between Jillian Michaels Podcasts and Pandora radio. I should update my iTunes though!

    • Pandora is my go-to usually when I’m at the gym or doing a shorter run, but for longer runs I don’t like it because I’m limited to the number of songs that I can skip… Soon enough, I’m over my limit and stuck with a slow song 😛

  10. Nothing like a good playlist to get you all pumped up for a workout – when that special song comes on it’s like your feet grow wings. Love it 😀 That being said, my workouts right now aren’t super intense so I don’t usually end up listening to music. I do a lot of interval walking on the treadmill, and my favorite thing to make the time go by is reading a book. I tried music for a while, but it wasn’t enough to keep me from feeling like a hamster on a wheel… I need more distraction!

  11. Great playlist. Whenever I would run I actually NEVER listened to music. I always found it as such a distraction? Don’t ask me why, Ha!

    • To each his own! It’s the complete opposite for me… I love running and listening to music and letting my mind wander. Whenever I try working out without any music I get so antsy and can’t wait to be done!

  12. I love how our playlists would be nearly identical — except switch out the will.i.am. and Brit for Animal by Kristina Maria and J.C. Chasez. Along with Call Me Maybe, definitely my favourite to run to.

  13. i ALWAYS run to pandora – what are your favorite stations? my go to is rihanna but lately i’ve been trying david guetta out. a little too trance-y club-y for me, but there are some songs i love. when i’m running outside and it’s nice out for some reason my go to station is van halen’s jump. i think it reminds me of this summer and that makes me happy. i got some good jams off this playlist though and some itunes giftcards so maybe i’ll be making some purchases soon.

    • I love running to Pandora too but for my longer runs I run out of skips and get stuck on a slow song… I haven’t tried any singer-specific stations, just the “Top Hits” and “Top Hip-Hop” stations. I’ll have to get some new ones!

  14. Love this, I’m always looking for new running songs! I’m obsessed with Hall of Fame right now, but my all time fave is Shinedown’s Devour!

  15. Running playlists are definitely necessary for me for longer runs, or a really good audiobook. I definitely run faster with music but sometimes am actually more into listening to a book!

  16. Sometimes I get so bored mentally during a workout! Perfect pump up playlist :)

  17. I have a “gym playlist” that I am constantly updating and editing. My current favorite song is “Don’t Stop the Party” by Pitbull, definitely gets me going, whether it’s for a run or some weight training. Love that you haveGloriana and Imagine Dragon songs on your list!

    • I loveee country music 😛 And I need to be more consistent about updating my playlist- it happens so rarely that by the time I add the new songs I’ve got a completely new list!
