Wonderfully Lazy Weekend

This weekend has been wonderful!  After a less than stellar sleep Thursday night, I slept in till 8AM Saturday morning.  After downing a bowl of salted caramel oatmeal I was out the door to meet Alex and Molly downtown for coffee.  Those two girls are absolutely awesome- we could talk for hours.  And the thought of us all [plus this girl] going to NYC sometime in the near future makes me extremely happy!

On the way home I swung by my momma’s house and picked-up a pair of gloves.  I’ve been searching for a pair to wear for when I’m running outside but refuse to pay $45 [sorry Potomac River Running, I love you but my wallet thinks otherwise].

Growing up my family went skiing a couple of times each year so overtime we’ve accumulated quite the collection of winter clothes.  I wish I had snapped a picture of the tie-dye suit that I once wore.  After digging through the baskets, I found a pair of bright blue gloves with sticky dots on the inside- do y’all remember those?  I probably got them when I was eh, 10 years old?  Thank goodness for stretchy clothing.

The rest of Saturday was spent being lazy.  Eating, relaxing, taking a trip to Target, playing with the pup, eating, and watching Pitch Perfect [per the recommendation of many of y'all].  My thoughts…  It was acaAWESOME!  I’ve always loved musicals, Grease was a childhood favorite of mine, and I thought the cast was hilarious- I definitely recommend watching it if you have a few hours to kill!

Last night was another good night of sleep, despite Charlie waking up at 3:30AM.  Thank goodness Ryan took the hint from my groan of “Nooo, Charlie nooo!” and graciously volunteered to take him outside.  I knew that if I got out of bed I wouldn’t be getting back in.  Second day in a row of sleeping in until 8AM, solid but I don’t wanna jinx myself again.

I continued on the salted caramel kick this morning and added a splash of it to my pancake batter.  Taking the easy route, I used a buckwheat pancake and waffle mix by Arrowhead Mills that I got a while back when it was on sale at Whole Foods.  Unfortunately, the pancakes turned out to be anything but fluffy.  They were some of the flattest and hardest pancakes that I’ve ever made but I was reassured by this lovely lady that buckwheat can be tricky.  Despite their appearance, they weren’t a total flop and provided great support for the globs of toppings that I piled on top.

After a few hours of procrastination, I finally made it out the door for a run.  Side tangent: when outside running, do you say anything when you pass someone, like bikers do “On your left/ right!”?  This morning there was a woman running smack dab in the middle of the trail in front of me.  I noticed that she was wearing headphones so I didn’t think she’d hear me if I tried to say something.  When I got within passing distance I ran to her left [off of the path, onto the grass] and she immediately jumped.  I turned around, waved, and kept running.  Whoops?

The mileage wasn’t in the double-digits, but it was double the distance that I’ve run in a month.  It wasn’t the distance that my training schedule had planned for this weekend, but it was as far as my body could go.  For that, I’m proud.  I pushed my body to the point of failure, not to it’s breaking point.

After lunch, a snack, and another snack [my hunger cannot be tamed], Ryan and I debated our afternoon plans and ultimately decided to carry-on with yesterday’s laziness.  A series of House Hunters were watched, we went on our first family walk since Ryan’s surgery, we made a trip to TJ’s, and now we’re back on the couch waiting for dinner to finish…

I hope y’all have had an equally wonderful[ly lazy] weekend :D

P.S.  The salted caramel recipes will be shared later this week!

Question:  Do you prefer lazy or busy weekends?

Question:  Share something that was wonderful about your weekend!

Whatcha Think?

  1. dude I am drooling, salted caramels? need a taste tester? I am by far the most qualified. I always do that to runners in the morning and I feel so bad but their own fault. You should never have music too loud that you can’t hear what is around you. stupid move on their part. anywho my life was made by seeing you this weekend, needs to happen on the daily

    • You’re more than welcome to come test whenever you’d like ;) And that’s a good point- they should not have their music so loud that they can’t hear their surroundings…

  2. Thank goodness for the recipes FINALLY! I’ve been waiting for them all my life ;) Actually, though, the pancakes are what I’m after. I’m so jealous you Alex and Molly all live so close to each other so you can hang out all the time! Well, all the time is relative I guess but it seems like it to me so far away. You have such a pretty view on your walk! I wish I had somewhere like that to go running…

    • I can’t believe that I’ve had this bottle of salted caramel syrup for months and I’m finally just using it! Although, I’ve made up for missed time apparently since there’s hardly any left…

  3. I’m a fan of weekends full of both! Yesterday was busy…today was lazy and spent in my running clothes and pjs…perfect in my mind…although salted caramel pancakes would have made it even better! What do you use in your batter for that?

  4. Glad this weekend was relaxing for you (I def needed the relaxation as well!). I normally don’t say anything when passing people. I might grunt a few times if I think they can heaer me but other then that I don’t…ha ha…I do, however, get extremely irritated at people that run down the middle of the path.

    • I’ll have to try your grunting technique, although I don’t think she would have heard those either… And yes, it was super frustrating- stay on one side!

  5. That salted caramel oatmeal sounds unbelievable. So glad you loved Pitch Perfect….definitely one of my favorite movies! I totally prefer lazy weekends…as long as I have nothing to get done and can relax!

  6. You are such a cutie pie!! I absolutely LOVE that picture of your little family. Sigh. You make my heart very, very happy my dear.
And yes, I usually call out “On your left!”, but what I really mean is “Pick a side and get the eff out of my way. Thank you!”. Especially here … you’d better believe I’m much more likely to run someone over than to jump in the snowbank (that’s as high as my waist currently, so yeah right!) to get around them. Usually, it’s loud and breathless, half the time I scare people, but I usually get the results I’m looking for.

    • Reading this makes MY heart very happy- you’re way too kind and thank you! Haha, I cannot imagine running with snow banks up to my waist… If that were the case yesterday, I may have had to accidentally push her into one of them because she was not gonna move out from the middle of the path!

  7. Lazy weekends are THE BEST! :) Cute pictures of you and Ryan . . . and love the Pitch Perfect graphic. That movie was too funny.

  8. I saw Pitch Perfect in the theaters and LOVED it. Such a cute and inspiring movie!

It appears to me that you may be as obsessed as I am with House Hunters. I always feel weird admitting that, but I cannot get enough of that show ;) .

  9. I am definitely looking forward to the salted caramel recipes! I jumped on that bandwagon a few months ago, and yes, amazing.

And Pitch Perfect was hilarious! album has been downloaded and will be my workout music for the coming week. And I will try to avoid the temptation to add ‘aca’ to everything…but will likely fail. :-p

    • I can’t believe I’ve had this bottle for months and I just started using it… But sadly, I’ve already used it almost all up! Ooo, I’ll have to look into the album!

  10. I love lazy weekends.. They seem to be extra refreshing. Even if I just have a lazy Sunday, I feel great on Monday. :) have a great week!!

  11. I like one day of a 1/2 busy day… but FUN busy – so busy with friends, etc… And then one day just to myself, sweats, no make up… Maybe no shower – lol – and friends can come over if they want, but it’s required that everyone who comes over has to be in sweats, no makeup, essentially GRUNGE wear! LOL! ;)

  12. Salted caramel oatmeal?! You tease! It sounds fabulous… as does your weekend. I like weekends that are a good mixture of both lazy and busy. I’m not a fan of lazy to the point where I feel like a lump on a log, but neither am I a fan of being so busy that I don’t have any time to relax. It’s all about balance, right? :D And I apparently need to get on the Pitch Perfect bandwagon… Everyone seems to be raving about it, and I still haven’t seen it!

    • That totally makes sense and I agree- if it’s too laid back I get stir-crazy! And yes, I definitely recommend watching it… Assuming you like musicals :P

  13. HOLD ON! Salted caramel oatmeal?! I can’t WAIT for that recipe! Two of my favorite treats to make at Christmas are homemade salted caramels and salted caramel sauce. I never once thought to add it to my oatmeal, though! Great idea, Allison!

Pitch Perfect is one of the funniest movies I’ve seen this year! I rented it on Netflix a few weeks ago, and couldn’t stop laughing. Rebel Wilson (aka “don’t put me down for cardio” girl) is hilarious. I also loved her in Bridesmaids. :)

I’m so glad you had a relaxing weekend! Can we please meet up sometime soon for coffee/dinner?! xoxo

    • Holy moley, I’ve never made caramel before but that sounds divine! And I completely agree, that lady is hilarious- she made me laugh throughout the whole movie :P I’d love to meet-up, let’s pick a date!

  14. mmmm can’t wait for the salted caramel recipe. Your weekend sounds lovely too! Nothin like coffee with friends & relaxing :)

  15. Love me some lazy weekends…. heck we have them all the time, I only wish I could sleep in past 6. Heck, I’ll even take 6:30-7.. not greedy at all!!

&& um… salted caramel oats? Yes please. I’m so ready for this recipe!!

  16. pumped about the salted caramel recipe – my mom has a bottle of the stuff which i am now going to try to steal next time i’m home because all of these recipes and ideas are making me want salted caramel in my life. i really want new york to happen!

    • You totally should try to sneak that bottle home… In your checked baggage because they most definitely will take it away if you try to go through security ;)

  17. Wow salted caramel oatmeal – that sounds amazing. I swear I could put salted caramel on almost anything and still love it! Can’t wait to see the recipe :)

  18. I’ve heard such good things about Pitch Perfect lately! I think I’m going to have to get it when the hubby is gone next week. Sounds like a good girls night movie! I go back and forth between lazy weekends and busy weekends. Usually, since we have a toddler, we are busy on the weekends with events and things going on but every once in awhile it’s good to have a low key relaxing weekend at home :-)

  19. I LOVEE that you said the movie was acaawesome. SO true. I freaking loved that movie and I need to watch it again. Awesome job on the run, very rarely do I have to say anything to people..but I have before. That’s funny she jumped..owell!

  20. I was wondering wat this salty caramel goodness is that your speaking of :) can’t wait for the recipe.

  21. AHH Charlie is so cute!!

When I run, I usually try to say loudly, “on your left, please” or “excuse me, please” and then go past. It’s a little tough with city sidewalk running, though, so I just do my best :)

    • I actually have had better luck with passing people in the city than out here in the ‘burbs – it’s like the people in the city already are expecting other people to be around, versus in the ‘burbs where there are usually just a few of us out :/

  22. Umm… this post was aca-awesome, as are you.
I’m in love with that movie.
Just thought I’d stop by and show some awesome HealthySelf Ambassador love :)
Your pictures are beautiful! What camera do you use.

    • Thanks so much! Much love from one acaAWESOME ambassador to another :D I usually just use my iPhone to take picture – which is too bad since I’ve got some great cameras sitting, gathering dust, on the shelf…
