Before anything, I cannot thank you all enough for the sincere and supportive comments that you left me on yesterday’s post. It was very relieving for me to put my thoughts into words and I hope y’all learned a bit more about the human digestive system… Totally kidding, I’m not a doctor but I do know how to read [the papers the doctor gave me]
I stumble on this picture today and felt the need to share, to lighten the mood ya know… True life.
Did y’all hear the rumor that today is National Pancake Day? I could have sworn we just celebrated this holiday? After doing some good old Google research, I was reminded that we certainly did celebrate National Pancake Day on February 5th…
In many countries around the world, Fat Tuesday itself — which falls on Feb. 12 this year — is just known as Pancake Day. It comes just before the start of Lent, the annual Christian season of penance and fasting, which is as good a reason as any to get out the syrup and chow down. In the U.K., the tradition of making and eating flapjacks on Fat Tuesday goes back to the Middle Ages, when religious folks abstained from dairy, eggs and meat from Ash Wednesday until Easter. In many other European nations, including Sweden and Poland, the day is celebrated by making the most sugary, fatty pastries possible — usually a form of pancakes. [source]
So with oh so many tasty holiday’s occurring on the regular, I took it upon myself to color code a 12-month food calendar for you. Please note that I chose just a few holidays per month based upon a) some of my favorite eats and b) that made me giggle. Plenty more holidays exist. Enjoy!

There are SO MANY FOOD HOLIDAYS! I’m glad pancake week is coming up pretty soon because I totally missed the boat on today. I would say s’mores or milkshake day but… oh wait… they’re already created. I guess I’m not as original as I thought. But I’d say all of my favorite foods should be a national holiday every day
Ooo milkshake day sounds tasty right about now!
This is brilliant…I’m in for anything involving pumpkin, chocate, pancakes or pasta
Count me in for any of those days too
Who on earth comes up with those holidays!? Best. Job. Ever. Definitely most excited about national cheesecake day
Haha I know, right? I totally would love my job if I could taste test each holiday
What a fun list that you compiled! My favorite days are definitely any of the days that involve peanut butter. It is my FAV! Also, I cannot believe that I missed National Popcorn Day! This makes me a little sad
.
I totally agree about PB – anything and everything with a schemer of it tastes delicious!
I am writing all these on the calender. And I can’t help but notice that 1. the boyfriend and mine’s 20-month dating anniversary falls on chocolate cake day. And my birthday is 4 days before national chocolate day. Coincidence? I think not.
Only question: why do figs get an entire week? I mean, I like figs, but I think chocolate should get that honour.
Those definitely are 2 good days and now you have even more reason to celebrate
Haha I totally agree about the fig week!
I totally just saved this whole post! I’m really looking forward to pancake week
You and me both girly!
I think that it would be a great challenge for me to celebrate each and every one of these for a full year … hm. I’m giving it some serious thought …
I like that challenge and totally would be interested in joining in on the fun
I cannot narrow it down to one day I’d be excited about. I’m a foodie, for crying out loud!!! I get all excited just reading through that list.
Haha it is a bit overwhelming! Thankfully, you can celebrate as many or as few days as you’d like
why the hell do raisins get a whole week? seriously – i am all for raisins (i’m not actually – don’t really like them) but why a whole week? also national punch day makes me think of violence instead of food. i’m going to walk around punching people that day and say i didn’t understand the holiday. oh and for some reason thursday being “cream filled chocolate” day cracked me up. i don’t know why that just seems so random to me though.
Haha oye! I totally agree that dried fruit probably doesn’t deserve a wholeee week but I’m not sure I can get on board with punch day – you’re gonna have to fly solo on that one girly
Oh that is interesting, thanks for sharing (I see you Waffle Day in March). It’s funny how much time and effort is spent creating these days. I agree with Molly about punch. I think I’m still going to use it as more of violence related…bahaha not that I’ll be punching anyone…
Mmm I’m looking forward to waffle day too! Haha you two are gonna have to partake in “punch day” without me
Thank you for this! I always seem to miss out on food holidays because I never knew when they are.
I’m excited for National Cheesecake Day, National Oatmeal Day, and National Fig Week!
*know
Good grammar, Chelsea.
Ooo there’s also National Oatmeal Month just FYI
haha omg so many holidays!
I knowww – too manyyy!
You should totally make it a goal to celebrate each and every food holiday. Really you should. And then send me food. I like that idea – genius. haha
I definitely wanna try celebrating a few of the holidays each month – if I did them all, I’d be celebrating something every.single.day.
It’s National Pancake Week?! That’s all the reason I need to make it a breakfast for dinner kind of day
Mmm, I could eat breakfast for dinner [brinner] any day of the week – no reason necessary!
I knew yesterday was Pancake Day, but that’s pretty much only because of Lent… all of the other foodie holidays usually go completely unnoticed by me. I like to think that that’s because I celebrate my favorite foods on a daily basis, though
But seriously… how cool would it be to celebrate each and every foodie holiday? Definitely an interesting thought…
We celebrate Lent but I never knew about pancake day – I’ll have to ask my momma about that. We oftentimes had breakfast for dinner, but I can’t say that I remember having it any more often during Lent…
March 1st (peanut butter day) and October 28th (chocolate day)! A day where the two are combined would be even better! Or a chocolate, peanut butter and banana day! Who thinks of these things!?!
Ooo I like both of those ideas! [Dark] chocolate + PB is one of my favorite combos, as well as [dark] chocolate + banana
I’m kinda excited for Feb 23rd – banana bread day.
and March 1st of course! I love these food holidays!
Banana bread is a favorite! If only February 23rd and March 1st could combine into one day
When did all these ‘days’ comes into play! Holy moly lol
Haha I have nooo clueee but I’m definitely not complaining about [some of] them
Definitely looking forward to national cookie day
Hehe I’d figure that Miss Cookie Dough
Any favorites?
Some of those food days are a bit specific: National Oatmeal Nut Waffles Day. Really? A specific variety of waffles gets its own day?? haha so funny
Haha I know, right? But it does give me more motivation to get creative in the kitchen!
yes. yes. yes. thank you for this list! august 5: national mustard is my fave! i find it ironic that christmas is national pumpkin day and the day AFTER is candy cane day. shouldn’t pumpkins be done in october or november?? candy canes should be december 25! who do i call about this?!?
Ahhh another mustard lover?! Mustard > ketchup, just saying
And I thought the same thing about the pumpkin… Who knows!
all of these food holidays are ridiculous! i mean if a restaurant like iHop is gonna give me free pancakes on pancake day then that’s fine, i’ll take them haha. but the days all have lost their meaning because they are just so random and in some case multiples apparently, like the pancake day.
There are wayyy too many to keep track of! And I agree that it seems like every day is a pancake holiday – but I won’t complain
This is so funny! I love how pancakes get their own WEEK.
That is gonna be one sweet week!
