Five Things Friday 3.1.13

It’s Friday, it’s Friday…  Everybody…  It’s Fridayyy!  I have sung that [annoyingly catchy] song in my head every.single.Friday since the first time I heard it.  Anyone else notice how the most annoying tunes are the catchiest?  I don’t think that’s all too ironic.  The latest – McDonald’s Fish McBites…  Fishay fishayyy!

Thing 1.  Last night I planned to have a date with Benadryl because my sleep schedule has been completely berserk this week but because I was so tired, I completely forgot to pop the pills.  I slept until 7AM, only getting up to go to the bathroom once - totaling a whopping 9 hours of sleep, solid.

Thing 2.  I’m a dork for numbers, math was my favorite subject and I zoom through sudoku puzzles.  So I think today’s date is pretty sweet – 3.1.13.  Don’t judge, but sometimes when I’m out running my brain starts spewing off random math facts.  For example, if I saw 1257 on someones mailbox I might start thinking…  1 + 1 = 2, 2 + 5 = 7, 7 – 5 = 2, and 2 – 1 = 1.  I don’t know why, I can’t explain it, but it helps to pass the time.

How many licks does it take to get an empty Cho container?  A one…  A two-HOO…  A tha-three…  A three!

Thing 3.  This weekend [Sunday] is Ryan and my 6-month wedding anniversary.  Holy heck, time has flown!  I joke with him that I’d love to get married every year just so I could plan it all again.  I love all that kinda stuff – going dress shopping, choosing the color scheme, finding the location, selecting the vendors, going to the tastings…  As I’ve said before, I’d love to be a wedding planner!

Thing 4.  We ran out of eggs yesterday so oats were what was for breakfast this morning.  The consistency of oatmeal on it’s own is tasty, but it’s even better when it’s doctored up with some Greek yogurt.

IMG_3914

Creamy Cinnamon Raisin Oatmeal

1/3 cup of oats

2 tbsp raisins

a dash of cinnamon

1 1/3 cups of water [I typically use a 1:3 ratio of oats to water - makes them super fluffy]

1 tbsp SF Torani syrup

1 6-ounce container of plain Greek yogurt

peanut butter

~~~
1.  In a nonstick pot, combine oats, raisins, cinnamon, and water.
2.  Bring oats to a boil and reduce to a simmer.
3.  Cook and stir for approximately 10 minutes or until oats are at your desired consistency.
4.  Pour yogurt into a medium bowl and top with oatmeal.  Swirl to combine.
5.  Top with peanut butter and enjoy!
Notes:
  • Feel free to omit the cinnamon and raisins and substitute apple pie spice, nutmeg, pumpkin pie spice, or any dried fruit
  • Flavored yogurt would be a tasty alternative
  • I often will top it all off with a handful of cereal or granola to add a little crunch
Thing 5.  Today is yet another foodie holiday - National Peanut Butter Lovers’ Day!  Unknowingly, I had a spoonful of Peanut Butter & Co.‘s Cinnamon Swirl with breakfast and packed a Chocolate Peanut Butter Quest Bar as an afternoon pick me up.  Both were tasty but what I’m really drooling over are all 45+ of these recipes
This weekend I’ve got a coffee date with these lovely ladies, a long run, and seeing another friend for a bit, but other than that I’m looking forward to a relaxing weekend.  Maybe cross off a few blog to-do’s that I’ve procrastinated doing such as updating plug-ins and fixing busted links.  And maybe, just maybeee, I’ll tackle the piles of laundry that have been sitting on our windowsill begging to be ironed.
Question:  Name the tune I referenced under Charlie the Cho bandit’s picture.
Question:  What’s your favorite way to eat peanut butter?  Feel free to link-up if you have a recipe!
Whatcha Think?
  1. A1: The Tootsie Rolls commercial with the owl. I may have read that in the owl’s voice.
    A2: On a spoon. Or with a spoon and a banana. I will literally just take a massive spoonful of PB and put little bits on a banana as I eat it. SO GOOD!
    xoxo
  2. Happy national PB lover’s day! :) PS: I love putting greek yogurt into my oatmeal!
  3. Favorite way to eat PB? From jar to spoon to face. That’s how :D
  4. I’ve never added yogurt to my oats before! Good idea. I always add egg whites to increase the protein, but greek yogurt would work too. Thanks.
    My favorite way to eat PB is a dallop on top of my oats! :) Happy Friday!
  5. Favorite way to eat PB: on a spoon! :)
  6. On a spoon? On a piece of bread? In oats? On veggies? On froyo? In chocolate? You name it, I’ll eat it ;)
  7. Your little cutie is such a model. I swear Chobani should hire that pup. They would make bank. You had to put that terrible catchy tune in my head. Fishy Fishayyyy
  8. Happy 6 months! <3 My fave way to eat PB is on a banana. So simple & so delicious.
  9. Happy 6 months :)
    Fave way to eat peanut butter: hot and crispy english muffin and enough peanut butter to melt on top. Ohhhh yeah.
  10. Claire @ Flake and Cake says:
    Yummy looking breakfast bowl! The best way to eat PB? With an apple nd cacao nibs or off a spoon ;-)
  11. those oats sound awesome – i’ve never put yogurt in any oats but the overnight variety. and i still can’t get into snapchat but i might need to if you get to catch funny moments like that. you and charlie are the cutest sleepers i’ve ever spied. can’t wait for tomorrow am.
  12. I was slightly depressed when I realized that today was National Peanut Butter Lovers Day and I didn’t have any in the house. :-( Almond butter had to suffice.
    Happy 6 month anniversary!
  13. I’m a nerdy math person too, it’s fine. One of these days I’m going to creepily show up at one of your coffee dates and pretend I’m invited. You’ve been warned…
  14. Happy 6month-versary! I was super excited for PB Lovers Day. The yumminess managed to make it into my breakfast AND lunch. I love eating eating pb on some good ol’ fashion toast (http://southernbellelivingwell.blogspot.com/2012/12/like-rock.html) It sits in me like a rock!
  15. It’s crazy how fast the first year of marriage flies by! Before you know it, you’ll be going on 5 like us :-)
    Lately, I’ve been loving this natural organic PB from Costco by the spoonful with a little raw honey. Yum! But I’ll eat it anyway!
  16. Happy 6 month anniversary! Ours is tomorrow!!!!
  17. I’m a numbers fiend too…some people may call it dorky but I like to think that it helps keep my brain ticking ;) !I found out about yesterday being “National Peanut Butter Day” as i was going to bed…which obviously means I need to make up for that today!! Favorite way to eat it probably stirred in oatmeal but I’m equally as happy eating straight up a spoon! Hope you have a great weekend, girl!
    • People celebrate birthdays a day [or more] late, so I think that it would be perfectly acceptable to celebrate National Peanut Butter Lovers’ Day any day your heart desires :P
  18. Ohh, that silly little Charlie! He does it again with his cuteness! ;)
    Happy 6 month wedding anniversary to you and Ryan! I love that you had cupcakes at your wedding!
    • Thanks Hannah! We couldn’t choose just one flavor and since our bakery didn’t charge extra for multiple flavors, we opted for a cake and cupcakes ;)
  19. I do math in my head when exercising too!!! I’ll do things like calculate my place, my estimated distance if I keep a steady pace, etc. It’s so dorky, but it keeps me entertained.
    I made these chocolate PB frosted white chocolate blondies with soy nut butter and they were fabulous! http://www.loveveggiesandyoga.com/2011/05/white-chocolate-blondies-with-chocolate-peanut-butter-frosting.html Definitely one of my favourite recipes. These granola bars are amazing too! http://www.fannetasticfood.com/recipes/no-bake-peanut-butter-granola-bars/
  20. I’m glad you are a numbers girl! I am not!! lol… Right now I can’t have peanut butter, but I’m counting the days until my doctors lets me try it again!! I love it by the spoonful!
  21. Commercial songs are so annoying…I’m a teacher and my students constantly sing these songs…yet they can’t remember what we did yesterday! Oy!
    • I taught middle school last year and know what you mean… Whatever I said went through one ear and right out the next, but anything they saw or heard on TV was repeated for days :P
