Last week I sat and starred at my computer for a few too many hours between work and uploading honeymoon pictures… My eyes feel hazy, my brains felt like mush, and my butt felt flat. So this weekend I opted to disconnect and it was marvelous! I still was on my phone, exchanging messages, uploading pictures to Instagram, and occasionally Tweeting, but my computer stayed shut.

Every few months or so I let myself slip away from the social media scene. I started doing this in college when I was studying for exams. Trying to manage multiple accounts, especially when it’s not my full-time job, can be a bit much after a while… I’ll probably totally disconnect myself from everything [blogging included] for a week sometime this spring.
Thanks Katie for hosting another marvelous link-up!

That’s a lot of marvelous! The most marvelous part of my weekend was a family lunch at Stir Crazy on Saturday, then we all went to see my sister’s nursery (my nephew is due next month -eek!).
Aw, congrats to you and your sister – such an exciting time! I’ve never heard of Stir Crazy… Is it a stir-fry place?
I am currently obsessed with cantaloupe…orrr maybe I always am?
BOGO sounds amazing!
I absolutely love your idea of taking a social media break. I am thinking that this might be something that I should participate in, as well. A little break away from it all sounds pretty nice considering how time-consuming it can all get!
Bachelor? You bet! I cannot get enough of this show
.
Cantaloupe is one of my favorites – so sweet and so juicy!
Glad you had such a great weekend Allison! I disconnected quite a bit this last weekend as well…it’s definitely nice once in a while!
My entire weekend was fabulous – I headed home and had a shopping/dinner date with my best friend, a burger lunch with Chelsea of One Healthy Munchkin, and a dinner/movie date with my mom. It was exactly what I needed!
Your weekend does sound absolutely marvelous! I’d love to dine with you and Chelsea one day
Sigh. You’re just too freaking cute for your own good.
And the selfie makes you look like CatWoman. In the most fabulous way possible.
Love it!
Haha I think you’ve inspired my Halloween costume this year
Whenever I feel like I’ve spent too much of my week on the computer, a break can feel SO good! It sounds like you had a really nice break this weekend.
My weekend was marvelous because I had a movie night with a friend, enjoyed the gorgeous weather, and went out for burgers with Sam from Better with Sprinkles!
Eek, I’d love to have a play date with you and Sam someday – a girl can dream
you know what marvelous is… laughing with you. I don’t think I could have asked for anything more. wait… cheese balls … that was on par. more dates please and thank you
Haha you’re welcome to bring your cheese balls to our coffee dates – best of both worlds?!
looks like a marvelous weekend indeed
i completely agree with chelsie…you do look remarkably like the lovely catwoman…and the weather was one of the most marvelous things of the weekend…i need it to be 70 and sunny 24/7!
I think y’all have confirmed my Halloween costume for this year – now I just need to find some ears and a tail!
I know what you mean about disconnecting, I need to do that every once in a while. Your weekend looks fantastic. Especially the cantaloupe. I have never seen anyone eat it with a spoon, but I’m SO going to do that.
I highlyyy recommend it – I love the ‘lope!
I have to tell you that I laughed out loud when I read “Naked Pizza” and then “Bowling”… I must say that my mind read it as “NAKED BOWLING”.. I was like:::WOW! Allison gets crrrrazy!
Hahaha
Not we did NOT go bowling naked… But now I have that image in my head – eek!
Disconnecting can be so hard but so good!
I haven’t been bowling in ages! Fun! Marvelous this weekend was a date night with the hubby out on the town! Woo hoo! We saw Oz, went to dinner then a wine bar. So awesome!
I can’t decide if I want to stay up and watch the Bachelor tonight or catch it on DVR tomorrow without commercials…. Hmmm….
Aw, your date sounds absolutely marvelous! What did you think of Oz? I’ve heard mixed reviews…
Hahha I like your gym selfie- your itty bitty muscles look like mine. I think we should start forming a new itty bitty club. Charlie looks like he was enjoying the weather big time! I’m thinking about taking a little break next week while I’m in Florida. I might as well enjoy that time with my mom and grandparents instead of obsessing over commenting on every single blog!
I definitely think you should – your blog and the rest of them will all be here when you get back from the beach!
I’m so happy you enjoyed your computer-free weekend! I took a 10-day blogging break two weeks ago, and while I definitely missed interacting with my “blends,” fully disconnecting from social media (okay, nut *fully* but it kind of felt like it!) enabled me to spend time with friends and family without feeling the nagging pressure of writing or commenting. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE both, and can’t quite imagine my life without either now, but sometimes taking that break is so refreshing!
Okay, now onto this marvelous post! LOVE love love the gym selfie! Baby muscles are muscles, too! You own those, girlfran! The buckwheat waffles look amazingly delicious—they’re screaming “buy a waffle maker!” very loudly.
And BOWLING! I miss it! DC has only one bowling alley (that I’m aware of ), and they charge a crazy fee just to set foot in there. I miss the $2 night bowling nights from my high school days!
One more thing—when do I get to go on a coffee date with you?! <3 xoxo
I never knew or realized that DC doesn’t have any bowling alleys – our friends always come out to us or we’ll meet halfway… The one that I think you’re talking about is fun becuase of the bar and lounge, but it definitely is $$$!
I’d love to meet-up sometime, send me an email or message soon and let’s coordinate it
I adore your nail varnish – so pretty! Really need to buy myself that shade, there are few things that can cheer me up as much as have a glimpse of sparkly nails!
Thanks girl – I love sparkly nails too
i had a marvelous weekend because you were all up in it
those are my favorite kind of weekends.
Weekends with team dates are always marvelous!
I do the same thing and it’s absolutely fabulous. Actually now that I have somewhat cut down my blog reader and don’t feel the need to comment on every blog under the sun I think that I don’t actually need a break right now. Glad you had a lovely week friend!
I need to sort through my Google reader, it’s bursting at the seams – er, at the… File limit?!
I am all about taking weeks off and disconnecting from social media/my laptop whenever I feel the need to. It can really be exhausting and draining at times to always be plugged in. I personally rarely open my computer up on the weekends, I sit at one all day during the week and I’m more than ready for time away by the time Friday rolls around!
I’ve started to keep my computer closed on the weekends too and I’m loving it!
I’ve been itching to get my nails ‘did… that does sound marvelous, indeed.
I’m definitely no pro nail painter, but doing my own works in a pinch
I totally agree that disconnecting from social media for a short time is necessary to refresh the mind!! You cantaloupe is calling my name! My body has been craving fresh fruit like crazy! Looks like you had a lot of marvelous this weekend! Have a great day!
You can’t go wrong with cantaloupe
Buckwheat waffles. Whole Foods salad bar. Naked pizza. Spring-like days. I love ALL of those things. Definitely marvelous!!!!!
Mmm, I could go for all of those again anytime!
Ahhhhh! Teach me your HUGE fluffy buckwheat waffle-making waaaaaaaaays! I seriously want to plant my face in that plate!! And omg, I am in LOVE with those chairs! I was just at IKEA a month ago, how did I miss that?! Looks like you had one incredible…ahem, I mean MARVELOUS
weekend, m’dear! Good for you for taking a break from it all! I’m starting to realize that that is exactly what I need to do every so often so I don’t get burnt out!
My weekend was made marvelous by having my family helping me out after my surgery! And definitely the Arctic Zero “present” from the man-friend!
Oh, and Downton Abbey marathons! I’m official…I’m addicted!
I loved those chairs – hoping to get a new dining set when we move in a couple of months
I’ve only watched a couple of episodes of Downtown Abbey but I can’t seem to get into it… Maybe if I was bribed with ice cream I’d like it more?!
Ha! Come on over doll! I just bought two more pints the other day! But hurry…they’re going fast!
I love disconnecting. I NEED IT! I love that pic of you… too cute!
Agreed, it’s definitely good for the soul! Thanks girl
