Littlest Things, Biggest Deals

Today’s one of those days where the littlest things feel like the biggest deals…

Example 1:  I called to make a doctor’s appointment this morning and was told that my doctor doesn’t have any availability until the end of April but another doctor in the practice has an opening tomorrow morning.  My family has been going to this practice for years so I trust that they wouldn’t hire Bobo the Dumbo but it still makes me nervous – aka it’s a big deal.

Example 2:  One of the diamonds along the band of my engagement ring fell out.  I’m not sure when it did, could have been last week for all I know, but I just noticed it this morning.  I know that it’s covered by our insurance, but it feels like a piece of me is missing – aka it’s a big deal.

Example 3:  I have a GI appointment tomorrow morning.  It’s at a completely different hospital than the where I have been going and it’s with a senior GI.  I’m hopeful that he knows his stuff and I don’t hear “I don’t know.” again – aka it’s a big deal.

Example 4:  In 3 days I will be running my first half marathon.  I’ve been training for months and I’ve been doing a good job giving my body the rest it needs when it feels run down.  But this week my stomach has been completely wonky and I’m nervous I’ll wake-up on Saturday morning feeling like crap – aka it’s a big deal.

Example 5:  Ryan is traveling for work next week which means he won’t be around to walk Charlie mid-day.  I don’t work close enough to home to run by at lunch which means that I’ll more than likely have to take Charlie to camp every day which quickly adds up – aka it’s a big deal.

I know that when I wake-up tomorrow all of these little things will be just that and not understand why why I let myself worry, but in the moment of it all that feels hard to do.

Tomorrow is another busy day – TNT at 6AM, my first doctor’s appointment at 9AM, my second doctor’s appointment at 11:30AM, work, and then I have to pick-up my race packet for Saturday…   I most likely will not be on my computer, but can you blame me?

P.S.  I mentioned that I would be hosting a giveaway today, but I think it would be a bit much to try to squeeze it into this post – stay tuned ;)

  3. Oh girl! You need a rest!
    And we found that since we’ve been leaving our dogs all day when we’re working (around 10hr days) they sleep and really don’t want to pee in the house, so they hold it! Maybe Charlie will be ok? But that’s totally stressful, I know!
    I hope you feel ok for Saturday! I can’t wait to hear if the doctors have any answers for you!

    • We’ve left Charlie for hours before when we’ve had stuff going on and he’s done fine – sleeping the day away – I just feel guilty leaving him for so long :(

  5. i think life has been throwing a lot at you but you have been dealing with it all, which blows me away. just remember that even those small things will never trump the Allison that I know.

  7. Awwr girlie, I know I already sent you some, but I’m sending even MORE big hugs your way. You’ve been given so much to deal with and handling it all so well, so there’s no doubt in my mind that you’re going to get over this bump with flying colors too. I think we all have those days where everything feels like it’s impossible to handle, but just remember that no matter what happens, the world won’t end and you’ll find a way to deal with it.

  10. i totally hear you on this girl! i’m the same way…drives me and everyone in my life nuts at times but you know what i’m learning? sometimes just sitting with that stuff and letting yourself feel it makes it go away a lot faster. and i fully believe everything will work out love :) good luck today, see you in two days hopefully, and best thing i’ve eaten recently? pancakes for dinner last night :)

  11. Deep breaths, hon. My stomach was messed up on all of my training runs and the week before my first half, and all you can dois to be smart about it. You can worry about it, of course, but as we both know,when a both with digestive issues wants to be messed up, there ain’t nothing we can do about it. So just concentrate on having fun with your friends, and whatever will be will be. I know it’s hard because you don’t want to let thm or yourself down, but there will always be another race to run, though you might never have everyone together again. Good luck honey!

  14. Hope everything goes well at your appointment today! It can definitely be easy to let little things bog you down, especially when they’re all happening at once. It helps to talk about them and say them out loud though to someone, and then realize how little it really is. Always makes me feel better anyway!

    • Thankfully the jewelry store was very understanding and they’re sending it back to the designer – all is well! Just wish it wouldn’t take a few weeks to fix…

I’ve definitely been known to “make mountains out of molehills” on a somewhat regular basis, but if I just remind myself to relax, take a breath, and take one thing in at a time, it’s easier to deal with things. My friend Ashley (Freckles & Spice) couldn’t have said it better in her post earlier this week: “No matter what this life decides to throw at you embrace it. Whatever the circumstance – good or bad – it was given to you for a reason. And I can guarantee you that the reason is to build you up, never to bring you down.” Keep your chin up love, everything always has a way of working itself out! :)

    Tastiest thing I’ve eaten lately: I’d have to say the my random throw-together bowl of roasted cabbage with soyaki sauce, sushi ginger, and sesame seeds that I had for lunch the other day. It was really just a way to clean out the fridge, but it ended up being one of the best combos I’ve made in a while! Only thing that would have made it better? Sugar snap peas! Thanks for the reminder that I need to pick up some more of those this weekend!
