This weekend was one of those marvelous weekends that I wished would never end… Good company, tasty food, fun times, beautiful weather, a relaxing schedule… If only it could have been a 3-day weekend. Thankfully we’ve got one coming up next weekend!
Thanks Katie for hosting another marvelous link-up!
Friday I stayed home from work because I was feeling under the weather and enjoyed a day of total rest – coffee was consumed, cuddles were shared, pumpkin muffins were baked, TV shows were watched – it was the “remedy” that I needed.

Saturday was dedicated to birthday celebrations – Charlie’s 2nd birthday, my father in-law’s birthday, and my belated birthday dinner with Ryan and my momma.
I’ll be the first to admit that we spoil Charlie rotten. I have never seen a dog with so.many.toys., yet his favorite toys are plastic water bottles or empty yogurt containers. That said, Ryan and I agreed that he didn’t need any more toys so we celebrated with a few treats – scrambled eggs for breakfast and a pumpkin muffin for “dessert” – he was in heaven!
For my father-in-law’s birthday, he asked us to help clean out his storage room. Moving boxes doesn’t sound fun, but sorting through childhood pictures and finding old memorabilia made it a blast, not to mention it was a small gesture that went a long way since my F-I-L hurt his back and can’t move the boxes himself. Plus, it’s always nice to spend time with family!
look at that laptop, it must weigh at least 20 pounds!
For my belated birthday dinner, Ryan, my momma, and I went to Seasons 52. It’s one of our favorite restaurants because of their seasonal menu, but we hadn’t been since the spring (aka missed out on their summer menu) so it was a real treat. To start my momma and I both ordered a wine flight (red for me, white for her) – flights are a fun way to try wines that you typically don’t order – and shared the Grilled Garlic Pesto Chicken Flatbread and the Organic Arugula Salad.

For our entrees, I ordered the Oak-Grilled Filet Mignon, my momma ordered the Grilled Kona-Crusted Lamb T-Bone Chops, and Ryan ordered the Wood-Roasted Pork Tenderloin & Portobello… We all loved our entrees! And we couldn’t leave without a few mini indulgences – Pumpkin Pie with Gingersnap Crust, Pecan Pie with Vanilla Mousse, and Chocolate Peanut Butter Mousse. I couldn’t have asked for a better night with those two!
Sunday morning I saw on the news that a fair was going on a couple of blocks over from our apartment so Ryan and I swung by Caribou Coffee and walked over. There were a handful of rides, a bunch of vendors, and a few games. One minor detail that I forgot to mention to Ryan was that it was a kids fair, haha! Nevertheless, it was a beautiful morning and we had fun – Ryan won a bear for Charlie and a goldfish that we named Goldie (we’re really creative!)… Unfortunately, Goldie lived a short life and took a swim down the golden throne.
The rest of the afternoon was spent in Sunday Funday mode – eating lunch at Wegman’s and hitting golf balls at the driving range with friends, completing a physical exam for insurance coverage, and soaking up the rest of the summer weather that we’ve been experiencing with a walk around the block.
I’m already looking forward to next weekend – I’m running a 5K, Ryan coordinated another belated birthday celebration for me (this time with our friends), and we possibly may take a trip down to Kings Dominion!
Question: Have you ever had a pet goldfish? What was his/her name?
Question: Do you prefer to go out to eat on your birthday or would you rather a homemade meal?
