MIMM: Ice Day

Yesterday we had our first snowfall – everything always looks so enchanting and peaceful covered with snow…

Snow 12-9

Around 6 p.m. the local school district announced that schools would be closed on Monday which probably was wise because when we woke up this morning everything was covered in ice.

P.S.  Do you follow your local school district on Facebook or Twitter?  Last night our district posted the closure news on their social media pages and unsurprisingly many people had mixed feelings about it.  You can’t always please everyone!

Thanks Katie for hosting another marvelous link-up!

So instead of teaching a class of 5th graders today, I’m comfortably curled up on the couch with Charlie.  There’s a chance that we could get 2-4 more inches of snow tomorrow, but I’m supposed to start what could potentially be a long-term position (I’ll share details when things are confirmed) so I’m actually hoping that the weatherman is wrong.  This is probably the first and only time that I’ll ever wish for a school day rather than a snow day.

Saturday morning I was out the door by 7 a.m. to proctor a SSAT as a favor for my momma.  I took the SSAT when I was applying to private schools and I’ve gotta say, it was much nicer being on the other side – I’d rather keep track of time than answer a writing prompt and bubble in answers on a scantron sheet.  I don’t miss taking tests or writing papers!

After the test I met Ryan for a lunch date before going to Trader Joe’s.  Note to future self: never go grocery shopping when there’s snow in the forecast – Trader Joe’s was a madhouse!  Ryan had to go into the office for a work emergency so the rest of the afternoon was spent completing the daily Elf for Health challenge and watching House Hunters.  When he got home we went to the gym for an easy bike ride.

Since Ryan is scheduled to have surgery on his ankle *again* this Wednesday, we spent the whole day yesterday getting ready for Christmas.  Decorations were put out, a tree was purchased, lights were strung, ornaments were hung, and Charlie grew a pair of antlers.

We also went to see my absolute favorite Christmas movie, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.  I’ve watched it every Christmas since I can remember but this was my first time seeing it in a theater.  And yes, it was even funnier on the big screen!  Before locking ourselves in for the night, we stopped by the gym and did some cardio plus this circuit workout.  It’s fast, fun, and guaranteed to make you sweat!

Question:  What’s your favorite snow day activity?

Question:  If you have a dog (or cat) – do you buy clothes for him/her?

Whatcha Think?

  1. Charlie is so, so cute with those antlers! I can’t believe the weather is so bad up there right now–my parents lost power because of the snow! I love making hot chocolate and watching Christmas movies on snow days, but nothing can beat sledding. I used to live for sledding as a kid! Enjoy your day off!

    • Oh no, I hope that they got their power back quickly! I’d hate to be without power when there’s ice and snow… Definitely would need a fire to keep warm!

  2. I work for a school district too and we were out of school Friday and today…. I’ve been iced in all weekend. Your tree is so pretty!

  3. We watch National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation every year – it’s such a holiday classic!

  4. Those are gorgeous pictures of the ice from this morning girl! I hope you’re enjoying your snow day :) My favorite snow day activity is curling up on the couch with a book and movie and a mug of hot tea and chocolate all day! Fingers crossed for no snow day tomorrow! I’m excited to hear what’s next for you!

  5. Charlie looks SO cute in his antlers and winter coat!! I can’t even handle it!

Also, thanks for that workout. I’ve been looking for a good circuit to do for Elf 4 Health and that sounds like the perfect one!

  6. What good looking trees! I love how you decorated yours. It makes the season so much more festive when the tree is all done up :)

  7. I have so many things to say in this comment that I don’t even know where to begin!! I went grocery shopping yesterday as well and it was nuts!! I think I would have enjoyed it more at least if I was at trader joe’s, but alas there are none near me. Charlie is the cutest!! Love love love. Your chairs (I think that’s what that is behind the red placemat) are awesome! Love :) Good luck with the maybe full-time position (so exciting!) I’m hoping we get more snow tomorrow because I’d like another day off to work on grad school work and watch some Christmas movies!

  8. Holy cow that IS a lot of ice! I used to like snow mobiling on snow days but haven’t done that in a couple years. Now I probably like to cozy up by the fire with some hot chocolate and maybe do some baking.

  9. My favorite thing about snow days is staying HOME and watching all the mindless TV that I want! I loved your winter time pictures…so beautiful!

  10. Ice storms can be brutal, but the after effects are so pretty!! I’m a fan of posting closings on social media sites :)

  11. Ugh ice storms! We lost power for 4 days a few years because of an ice storm. I was also 6 months pregnant at the time with our twins. Thankfully my hubs was able to get the very last generator at home depot. I think I would have committed a major crime if we didn’t get one!

    • Oh goodness, I can’t imagine how cranky I’d be if we lost power while I was pregnant. Thankfully that’s never happened (since I haven’t had kids), but I hope I didn’t just jinx myself 😛

  12. Those ice pictures are beautiful and your little dog is absolutely adorable! It is funny how people will brave the weather for Trader Joe’s. (Can’t say I don’t do it myself!)

  13. your pictures are all so beautiful!! I love me some trader joes, but you are right.. MADHOUSE!

  14. I love Charlie’s little vest outfit, so cute!! I have a few shirts for my dog, but she HATES them & tries to pull them off. LOL It’s also tough to find bigger dog clothes that are cute… and not super expensive. 😉
I’ll cross my fingers for you that you don’t end up with a snow day tomorrow. Good luck!

    • We were surprised when we put a sweater on him for the first time and he had no reaction… I would have thought that he would have done the same as your pup, try to rip it off!

  15. I woke up to tons of pictures of snow everywhere, and here I am complaining it’s cold when it’s not snowing here… and it 99.9% unlikely it will.

  16. Okay seriously, Charlie melts my heart. I even showed my friend a picture of him on one of your older posts like he was mine or something haha, ah that sounds creepy, but it was one of those “worlds cutest dog moments!” You are SO lucky to get all 4 seasons, Arizona looks the same year around, it just gets cold here. Thank you for sharing the gorgeous photos, I am missing real Christmas weather (Seattle girl).

Hmm…now I have an insane urge to go to TJ’s for flowers and cheerios. Clearly I am hungry and feeling fancy :) Lovely post!

  17. Sounds like a great day! My favorite activity is to sit by the fire and read a good book!

    • I really, really miss having a fireplace. This is the first place that I’ve lived (other than my college studio apartment) that doesn’t have a fireplace. I love the crackling, smell, and warmth!
