Thinking Out Loud: Mrs. Green’s

I didn’t sleep very well last night and have a 14-hour day ahead, so I’m struggling to come up with an interesting opener today…  Let’s just dive into my random thoughts.  Oh wait, did y’all see that I shared our current favorite dinner yesterday?  Mini Mexican Meatloaves…  Let me know if you try them!

Thanks Amanda for hosting another week of Thinking Out Loud!

Thought #1:  By the time you read this I’ll have already been to the chiropractor and been adjusted…  I still need to attend a 4th grade team meeting, teach a full day, drive to Potomac River Running, work my first shift and learn all things running, squeeze in a late workout, and eat dinner hopefully before 10PM.  It’s a long Thursday!

Thought #2:  Ryan tried spaghetti squash for the first time and thought it was less than delicious.  I shared his thoughts via Twitter and a handful of ladies responded saying that their husbands don’t like it either…  Maybe it’s in our DNA?

Thought #3:  Tuesday night Ryan and I had a headstand/handstand contest.  I struggled to do a headstand and he easily kicked his feet up into a handstand.  A computer wiz and a secret handstander…  I never saw it coming.  Considering I ended up at the chiropractor yesterday and again today, he clearly won.

image Tip: it’s called a HEADstand, but you’re not actually supposed to put any weight on your head – use your arms!

Thought #4:  Quest did it again.  I took a break from buying Quest Bars for the past few months, but the (bad) habit is back because of their newest, latest, greatest bar…  Cookies & Cream.  Get your hands on one or a dozen of them ASAP!  And if you don’t like them, you can most definitely send them to me 😉

Thought #5:  This year I’m tracking my miles and cardio minutes for no real reason, but because I wanna know.  I’ve tried using the Nike Running App, but I always forget to turn it when I do a treadmill run.  A couple of weeks ago I outlined my workouts in iCal and it’s been good so far…  If I switch days or change workouts, I simply have to edit the event.  It doesn’t total numbers, but I don’t mind doing it myself.

  • Running:  54.6 miles
  • Walking:  7 miles
  • Cardio:  840 minutes

Thought #6:  Charlie loves getting tangled up in his t-shirt…

Thought #7:  Hot dogs were our Super Bowl Sunday dinner.  I used to eat hot dogs frequently as a kid (my momma made franks and beans), but nowadays we typically buy chicken sausages.  The jalapeno chicken sausages from Trader Joe’s are our favorite!

Thought #8:  Over the weekend we swung by Mrs. Green’s, a new natural market that offers 100% organic produce, all-natural meats and dairy, artisan baked goods, supplements, and household, pet, and baby products.  It immediately reminded me of Whole Foods, but the prices were whopping expensive.  Ryan said it’s called Mrs. GREEN’S for a reason – you’ve gotta have a lot of green to shop there.

Thought #9:  I forgot my lunch at home today and the thought of eating cafeteria food makes my stomach churn.  True story: A kid found a plastic knife in his hot dog one day at lunch when I was in elementary school.  Thankfully (or unthankfully?) Ryan is working from home today because he’s not feeling well, so he and Charlie saved me from having to buy.  I love my boys!

Thought #10:  Saturday morning I proctored another SSAT test and afterwards treated myself to my favorite “me time” – a mani + pedi…

Question:  Did you usually bring or buy your lunch in grade school?

Question:  Spaghetti squash – yay or nay?  What’s your favorite way to eat it?

Whatcha Think?

  1. I always bring my lunch. The school lunches just aren’t nutritious for me, and I was too picky growing up. There were a few lunches I would buy when they showed up on the menu! I like spaghetti squash! I was the one hesitant when I bought it. My husband loves it!

    • I used to buy my lunch in elementary school, but switched to bringing it in middle/high school. My favorites were the stuffed crust pizza and teriyaki chicken bites… Nowadays, I don’t even wanna think about what they’re really made of 😛

  2. Ahhhh good luck at PRR today! You’re going to love it! I hope you get to meet the mizuno rep who is probably the same as mine haha I may or may not have a mini crush on him 😉 I can’t even do a headstand so you’ve got me beat! Oh and spaghetti squash…I don’t think I’d like it since I’m such a pasta girl and hate squash… So I’m with Ryan I think on that one.

  3. Aw your charlie pics always make me miss my puppy! Wish I could have him in this apartment. Also a headstand competition is totally something me and my bf would do hahaha

  4. Spaghetti squash is definitely not my favorite as a plain side dish, and I’m almost certain my husband would never eat it that way. However, if I use it as the base for our main dish and sub it for pasta, then we both enjoy it and eat plenty of it. Try it that way sometime and maybe your hubs will like it, too!

  5. Well that was nice of Charlie and Ryan :) I loved when Joe was off work over the summer because I constantly forget things, so he could bring them to me. Now I’m on my on when that happens. In elementary and middle school I bought lunch a fair amount, but then in high school I started packing. No idea why haha. Good luck with your first shift tonight :)

    • I forgot to mention that Charlie also threw up three times in the car, so it was VERY nice of Ryan {haha}! But it’s strange because Charlie never usually gets carsick…

  6. Can you believe that I’ve never tried spaghetti squash? I came -so- close once, but when I cut the darn thing open it was sprouting on the inside so I threw it out. I’m going to have to give it another go one of these days though because I’m super curious! I’m pretty sure it could never replace my beloved kabocha, but a little variety wouldn’t hurt.

    • I have never tried kabocha squash so I can’t make a comparison, but I love spaghetti squash! Although, it is a big pain in the butt to cut open… Make sure you nuke it in the microwave first.

  7. I made spaghetti squash the other day and was super hesitant about my husband eating it. He actually loved it! I was very surprised!!

  8. I will never go back to buying school lunch…until I’m in college. But campus food is a completely different story from high school cafeteria food.
I’ve actually never tried spaghetti squash before, but I have a feeling my bro and dad wouldn’t like it either. They would probably argue that it should not be called spaghetti squash if it doesn’t taste like spaghetti 😉

  9. I know that my husband would not like spaghetti squash either. I like it most of the time, but every now & then, it just makes me kinda grossed out. It’s a love/hate relationship.
I always brought my lunch to school when I was younger, but was envious of the kids that ate the hot lunch there & got the greasy pizza. 😉

  10. Okay, okay, that basically 3D shot of your Quest bar just made me insanely jealous. C’mon, did ya have to do that?! haha 😉 It’s true, men are just not as awesome as us with our squash loving ways. Cafeteria food is scary, I’d rather go to McDonalds…and that says A LOT. Good for you treating yourself to some spa time. I get so cheap when it comes to pampering myself. And for some reason I have been wanting acrylics lately, what’s wrong with me?! I hope you have a fabulous weekend lovely :)

    • Oh goodness, I’ll never get acrylics again. I used to get them in high school for homecoming/prom and they ruined my nails – they were brittle, would peel, broke easily, and were so weak for months following.

  11. LOVE LOVE LOVE spaghetti squash and my hubby loves it too. I make a delcious buffalo chicken spaghetti squash. Add in a cabbage mix and shredded carrots, chicken and Famous Dave’s hot sauce!! SO GOOD!!
