MIMM: Relaxing & Preparing

It’s no secret that dogs share similarities with people. They eat, they sleep.  They play, they poop.  Anddd they get hiccups.  This morning in between packing my lunch and making a stack of peanut butter puff pancakes, I tried soothe, scare, and burp Charlie’s hiccups away but had no such luck.

Whenever I get hiccups I’m a fan of the Crazy 8’s: 8 quick sips of air, 8 quick sips of water, hold your breath for 8 seconds…  But getting a dog to do that is impossible.  Bummer, poor puppy :(

Moving onto more marvelous things.  As I mentioned yesterday, this weekend was a good balance of relaxation and preparation, simply marvelous

Marvelous… Ryan’s birthday month.  I am a huge fan of birthdays, I have been since I was a young child and will be until I’m an old, old woman.  It’s the one month out of the year when it’s all about you and this month it’s all about Ryan!  Only 15 more days until he is officially an old man, eek!

Marvelous…  Fires.  Friday evening we had our first fire of the season to welcome the cooler weather.  It seems like within less than 24 hours the weather switched from fall to winter.  Good bye bare legs, hello leggings.

Marvelous… Sunnier mornings.  Thank goodness we set out clocks back this weekend.  I was beginning to think that I was waking up way too early because it was dark outside for hours after I was awake.  It was nice to see the sunrise while I was walking Charlie this morning!

Marvelous… Fresh cranberries.  The two times a year that tend to cook with cranberries are Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner, that is until this weekend.  On Saturday I picked up a bag of fresh cranberries at TJ’s and wanted to make something new.  I took the easy way out and made a stack of ‘cakes and quickly cooked the cranberries in a skillet with water.  Next I’d like to try baking muffins or some sort of savory dish.

Marvelous… Outlet shopping.  Last week Ryan mentioned that he needed a new pair of jeans so I jumped at the opportunity to go shopping.  I’m trying to be more mindful of my expenses so I kept my wallet tucked away [out of sight, out of mind] with the exception of a few “essential” purchases such as a black leather belt, 2 seasonal candles from Yankee Candle, and 2 tasty treats from Williams-Sonoma.

Marvelous… TNT training.  Not only are Ryan, my momma, and I getting our butts kicked every Tuesday and Thursday night, but TNT has also provided us with free sessions on Saturdays, a cardio script, a stretching routine, weekly challenges, and a nutrition plan.  I’m not so sure that we all truly understood what we were signing up for [haha]!

Marvelous… Food prep.  The past few weeks my breakfasts have been delicious, my lunches have been tasty, and my dinners have been easy.  In the morning I have time to make myself a satisfying breakfast and pack myself a filling lunch, but by the time I get home at night all I wanna do is eat, not cook.  With this in mind, last night I prepped some things that Ryan and I can enjoy throughout the week such as veggie eggie cups topped with feta cheese and spicy mustard turkey burgers.

Marvelous…  Personalized card.  If something is free why not take it, right?  Well, when my bank offered me a free opportunity to design a personalized debit card I couldn’t turn down the offer.  Now everyone will know how much I love my little buddy!

Marvelous… Braids.  I started growing out my hair when Ryan and I set a wedding date thinking that I’d have more options with longer hair.  Now that I haven’t cut my hair in about a year [other than a few trimmings], it’s as long as it’s ever been!  After being whipped in the eye and having it stick to my back, I’ve started to braid when I go to the gym.  Now if only I knew how to do one of those fanchy-schmancy braids I always see in Pinterest.

Marvelous… Sleepovers.  Friday night my BFF is planning to come over for dinner and a slumber party.  I. am. so. EXCITED!  It’s going to be like we’re in elementary school again but this time we won’t have our parents checking-in on us to make sure that we’re asleep!

XOXO,

Allison

P.S.  I was SO touched by Ashley’s story about Jen, a health and wellness blogger living in New York.  Like many people in New Jersey and New York, Jen and her family were greatly affected by Hurricane Sandy and ultimately lost everything.  Ashley has gone above and beyond by creating a Rebuilding Registry to help Jen and her family start fresh…  To read more of Ashley’s story or to donate to the Rebuilding Registry, click here.

April was Ambitious

Since I was a little girl, I have always been ambitious and have taken on many challenges or “opportunities” at once.  For some reason having only one task at a time seems too easy, like I am not challenging myself.  Give me one thing and I’ll ask for another, and another, oftentimes juggling at least  three things and usually more.

The past month of April was no different.  It started out slow since the first week was spring break, but even then I wasn’t on break, rather I took the first three required courses to receive a certificate in event management.  The next two weeks I spent a countless number of hours glued to my computer writing teacher narratives and anecdotal notes for my students’ testing materials.  Those were finally finished and submitted the third week of the month.

And somewhere in between all of that, I have been…

Planning my wedding, applying to jobs, trying to maintain my social life, training a puppy, making meals, committing to assist in the planning of multiple social events, and releasing any leftover energy into sweat sessions at the gym…

In my mind, busy = good and April was definitely busy!

I can’t say that I hope May will be as busy, but I am fairly certain it will be…

I am  headed out-of-town this weekend with a group of girlfriends for my bachelorette party [wahooo], I hopefully will make a decision soon about jobs, I will be attending multiple IEP meetings at school, I will be celebrating birthdays and special events with my friends, I will continue to be in the kitchen cooking and at the gym working out, and last but certainly not least, I will continue to plan my wedding…

Oh and a handful of product reviews and giveaways [*stay tuned*]!

P.S.  Sunday Successes will be back this weekend.  In summary…

I have been listening to my body and avoiding gluten, although it has been extremely hard and I have indulged in a fluffy piece of wheat bread on occasion [but have immediately regretted it]…

I have NOT been saving money and have bought a few too many items of clothing, but I have justified each purchase saying that I need them for job interviews [funny how the mind works]…

Ryan and I have continued to train Charlie.  He’s mastered sit and lay down, we’re still working on crawl and shake, and when we say “stay” he looks at us like we’re speaking a foreign language…

Daily Memorable Moment May 1:  I’m committing myself to blogging EVERY DAY this month.  Ambitious?  Maybe.  Awesome?  Yes :D

Successes Sunday {Week 13 & 14}

Last week I had a 2-hour round-trip commute into the city.  During the day I sat in class for 7 hours and at night I went home and worked on projects.  To some that may sound less than exciting but for me it was exactly the opposite- I was learning about something that I have recently discovered I have a strong passion for…  Event planning.

I have always been a planner and slightly OCD organized [my family and friends have accepted it thankfully ;) ]…  Throughout my school years I have held various PR positions that have required me to coordinate and execute events.  In my personal life I planned my engagement party last summer and currently I am planning my wedding.

Sometimes things don’t always work out as planned and the world has a funny way of working but you just gotta go with it…  Regardless, remember to follow your dreams.

Successes Sunday

1.  Listen to my body.  Although the past two weeks have been extremely busy, and at times somewhat stressful, I felt that I truly listened to my body and fed it what it needed in terms of food and fitness.

Food: I stuck to a primarily gluten-free and vegetarian diet which included lots of avocado, beans, low-fat dairy, and nuts.

Fitness: I went to a pilates mat class on Tuesday and BodyPump on Saturday in addition to my typical gym routine.

2.  Save money.  Most of my monies the past two weeks have gone towards groceries, aka essentials.

Nonessentials: Meeting a girlfriend for a manicure date and buying a computer charger because I left mine at school last week [but guess what, it was still there this morning].

3.  Train Charlie.  After a long day one of the best things to come home to is a puppy who will always love you unconditionally.

Training:  Every night Ryan helps Charlie practice his tricks.  He’s mastered sit, lay down, and speak and is working on crawl and shake.  It’s amazing what a puppy will do for a little piece of deli meat :P

Daily Memorable Moments

April 7:  Waking up for a Saturday morning sweat session- BodyPump kicked my butt, literally!

April 8:  Ryan and I had the opportunity to spend time with both of our families.  We met his family for lunch and my family for dinner…  Yay for two tasty gatherings!

April 9:  Tomorrow I have a presentation, progress reports, and lesson plans due- I feel somewhat like a college student again with the thought of having to pull an all-nighter…
