Dream Jobs

At the end of the school year, I took a leap of faith and said good-bye to teaching to pursue a career in the events industry.  I have always loved planning, from social gatherings with family or friends, to committee activities throughout high school and college…  Call me a dork, but I enjoy planning and color-coding calendars :P

I was so thankful [and lucky] to receive a job offer immediately after school ended in June.  I packed-up my classroom on a Friday and started as an exhibits assistant on Monday.  It was a hard decision to make since I had spent 4 years in college working towards a B.S. in education but as they always say, sometimes life doesn’t always go as planned [no matter how much planning you do] and you have to just go with it…  I went with it and I’m happy I did.

Sooo, where am I going with this?  Well, I am happy to report that I am thoroughly enjoying my new job but after posting the nail namer picture on Saturday I started to wonder what life would be like if I had a different job…  Don’t we all?!

Dog trainer.  Sunday night has become steak night in our house aka Charlie’s whiniest night.  He does not understand why dad gets a slab and he only gets the scraps.  He whimpers and whines, lays down and rolls over, anything to impress dad…  I’d love to be the person who trains adorable pups to sit quietly and wait patiently!

Scent sniffer.  On Sunday Ryan needed to swing by the mall to pick-up a skate tool so I made the most use of the time and stopped by Bath & Body Works.  I seriously think the last time I was in there was when I was…  15?!  There were so many good smelling scents that it was hard to choose just 1 so I took advantage of their current buy 2 get 1 free deal and walked away with 3 [typical girl].  I’d love to be the person who smells brown sugar and sweet pea scents all day!

Taste tester.  Having a Whole Foods across the street from my office is fabulously awful.  I typically will do a working lunch and eat at my desk so I can take a break and go for a walk but everyday I end up walking directly to Whole Foods.  I haven’t looked at my bank account for a while and probably don’t want to.  I’d love to be the person who taste tests all the new products and prepared foods!

Nature photographer.  I’ve said it once, I’ve said it twice, I may have even said it thrice [haha, such a rhymer], but I am falling in love with fall!  The scents, the flavors, and all the colors are truly stunning.  If I didn’t have any commitments, I would spend the whole day outside.  I’d love to be the person who spends the day wandering the woods taking pictures of the fall foliage!

Hotel rater.  Ryan and I are planning a trip up to Boston and I could not be more excited- I haven’t been up there since graduating in May of 2011.  Since recently booking our honeymoon we’ve become a bit frugal and would like to save money.  Currently the big question is should we drive or fly and where will we stay?  I’d love to be the person who receives all expenses paid trips in exchange for rating the rooms [puppies permitted = an appreciated perk]!

Personal shopper.  I’m a stereotypical girl who loves to shop.  For clothes or for food, for someone else or for myself…  I love to peruse through a store and snag a good deal!  I’d love to be the person people contact when they need to pick out a new outfit for a special occasion or need to pick-up a few groceries for dinner!

Health and wellness coach.  Two of the most common places you will find me are at home or at the gym.  I love the feeling I get after a good sweat session and feeling like I’ve accomplished something.  I love taking care of my body.  I cannot control if I have a flare-up [although I can take preventative actions to decrease the likelihood] but I can make sure that I am keeping myself physically healthy.  I’d love to be the person who helps others take care of their body through fitness and health!

Food holiday selector.  Earlier this month was National Pasta Day and National Dessert Day [two personal favorites] and today is National Boston Cream Pie Day…  I don’t make this stuff up, check it outI’d love to be the person who chooses what day everyone should eat abundant amounts of chocolate, peanut butter, or drink cup after cup of coffee!

I am not trained for any of the professions above so I cannot offer y’all advice and all jobs have their bad days, but I can dream about how fun the good days could be :)

XOXO,

Question:  What’s your dream job?

Question:  Are you working at your dream job?  Is it the job that you wanted to have when you were younger?  When I was in elementary school, I wanted to be a marine biologist so I could swim with dolphins and whales :P

13 Things Thursday 5.17.12

Thing 1.  I am back on an avocado kick, one a day every day.  Diced up on top of a salad, mixed with shredded chicken, added to a bowl of piping hot quinoa, or sliced on top of eggs…

Thing 2.  On Tuesday Charlie went to the vet to get his “manhood” removed [aka he got neutered].  The animal hospital kept him overnight which was probably for the best because as soon as he got home yesterday he went wild.  The poor little guy looks pretty pathetic with a cone around his neck to prevent him from licking the wound…

Thing 3.  Tonight I’m making a caprese quinoa salad for a potluck tomorrow night.  It’s my first time making it so hopefully it turns out to be tasty!  I’m taking inspiration from here

Thing 4.  One of my good girlfriends got engaged last weekend- so exciting!  I cannot wait to start talking wedding details with her…

Thing 5.  May is my second month participating in Foodie Penpals hosted by Lindsay over at The Lean Green Bean.  If you’re a blogger or a food lover you should totally check it out!  Last night I mailed my package to Ashley and received my package from Kim

Thing 6.  Not like I’m counting or anything, but there are only 20 more days left of school!  Thinking back, the east coast earthquake, the first day of school, and the torrential rain storm seem so long ago but were only a few months ago.  Have you ever noticed how quickly the days pass by so quickly but add up so slowly?  And sometimes, it’s just the opposite, the days pass slowly and add up quickly…

Thing 7.  It’s official, I accepted a job offer!  Friday, June 15th is the last day of school and Monday, June 18th is the first day at my new job.  I am super psyched to start!  So much for a summer break…

Thing 8.  On Saturday, my momma, my maid of honor, Ryan, and I are going to our first cake tasting!  When thinking back to weddings that I’ve been to in the past, I remember most cakes being either chocolate or vanilla but the two bakeries that we have scheduled tastings at offer so many flavorful options and unique combinations!  Do people tend to choose chocolate and vanilla because they are most common and widely liked?  I’ll share more about what flavors and fillings we chose to taste in a post over the weekend…

Thing 9.  For the past few weeks my gym routine has been super sporadic since most days I have something on my schedule for after school.  If my sweat session is planned for the morning, my routine consists of waking up at 4:45AM, driving to the gym, starting my workout by 5AM and finishing around 6AM, driving home, packing lunches for Ryan and me, eating breakfast, showering, and leaving for school by 7AM.  Those few free afternoons have been greatly appreciated…

Thing 10.  Despite being MIA from the blog world lately, there have been a few changes to LAB.  A) If you haven’t already noticed, there is a new page featuring all of my “Favorite Finds Friday” posts- be sure to check them out if you’re a Pinterest fanatic like myself!  B) Rather than featuring “Successes Sunday” weekly, I will be summarizing my progress towards achieving my goals on a monthly basis- weekly has been a bit much and sometimes I feel like I’m fishing for words.  I want to be proud to share updates and achieve my goals…

Thing 11.  There are so many movies out [and coming out soon] that I want to see- The Lucky One, The Avengers, What to Expect When You’re Expecting!  I just need to find someone to go with…

Thing 12.  There are only 130 more days until I’m dressed in white and say “I do!”  Oh my…

Thing 13.  The past few weeks I have had every intention to blog but after working all day, sweating myself silly at the gym, and trying to squeeze in brief periods of meaningful time with my family and friends, blogging has been put on the back burner.  Don’t get me wrong, LAB has been on my mind daily and I feel guilty that I have not been keeping y’all in the loop.  On a daily basis I ask Ryan not to let me fall asleep before I blog but he’s too sweet and either he A) knows how much I need my rest or B) believes me every time I tell him “I’ll do it tomorrow.”  Either way, the slacking needs to stop…

Question:  Share 2 [or 13] random things!

Question:  What races are you competing in this summer/ fall?  I’m interested in running a half-marathon or attempting a triathlon!

Daily Memorable Moment May 17: TG[T]IF…  Thank goodness [tomorrow] is Friday!  There are many fun things on the schedule this weekend :)

13 Things Thursday

I have too many things on my mind to write a logical post so let’s be random and jump around :)

Yesterday

Thing #1:  I ditched the gym in favor of a mani and shopping date with one of my girlfriends- it was fabulous to catch-up, get pampered, and find clothes that I want but currently can’t afford.  I got “First Dance” by OPI and thought it looked great, until I woke up this morning and saw that two of my fingernails got smudged.  I don’t know when it happened since they looked fine last night after I played with Charlie, made dinner, cleaned up the kitchen, and did some pinning…

Thing #2:  Dinner was simple yet tasty…

Brown Rice

Steamed Stir-fry Veggies

Perdue Simply Smart Lightly Breaded Chicken Chunks,

TJ’s Teryiaki Sauce

…Voilà, dinner was served!  Ryan and I both agreed that we need to add this chicken teriyaki rice bowl into our meal rotation.  FYI: I can’t remember the last time I had Chinese food- I don’t like eating it because an hour later my stomach hurts.  Literally, every time.

Today

Thing #3:  I read this article this morning and it made me rethink assigning homework.

“What the research shows is that, in countries where they spend more time on homework, the achievement results are lower,” Dr Walker, from Sydney University’s Education Faculty, said.

Too bad that thought lasted for .02 seconds and I gave my students homework tonight.

Thing #4:  A mom of one of my students brought me a special delivery: a bottle of water, a dozen deliciously smelling roses, and a bag full of produce…  Too nice!

Thing #5:  After lunch I popped in a piece of cinnamon gum and it made my tongue tingle.  Is that normal?  Does anyone experience this?  I eat ground cinnamon almost every day and it doesn’t make my tongue tingle…

Thing #6:  Did you know that 1 out of every 88 children is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder?  Boys are five times as likely to be diagnosed with autism than girls [source].  To read more about autism, check out the Center for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC] website.

Thing #7:  I tested out my new sneakers and ran 5 [hilly] miles after school!  That’s a big accomplishment considering the farthest I’ve run in the past few months is no more than 1.5 miles.  I definitely want to and need to get back into my running routine!  Too bad I think that a few of my toenails are going to turn purple…

Thing #8:  My momma texted me earlier in the day asking if I wanted to go for a hike down to the river.  I couldn’t say no to a hike on such a gorgeous day and I’m so glad she asked- the scenery and the blue bell flowers were breathtakingly beautiful- a simple reminder why I love where I live!

Thing #9:  When I was reading Monica’s post over at Run, Eat, Repeat about her love for crab cakes, I realized that I have lived in the DC area for all of my 22 years of life and love crab cakes, but I have never eaten a Maryland crab cake!  I immediately texted one of my girlfriends and she informed me that she knows exactly where we need to go :)   FYI: Maryland is known for their crabs…

Thing #10:  I’ve been back and forth about it, but I think I need to try a gluten-free diet for at least a week.  The past few days I have limited my consumption to one or two servings of wheat and have noticed a difference.  Sad but true.

Thing #11:  Tonight Ryan and I are going to attempt Bess’ from Bess Be Fit “500 Challenge.”  The challenge is to do 500 ab exercises today…  I usually average 100 a day, so it’s just 5 times 100 [ha], OYE!

Source

Thing #12:  Tomorrow is the last day of the third quarter- I am in disbelief, time has literally flown out the window!  We’re having a party at the end of the day full of fun, food, crafts, and a movie…  I still need to figure out the craft and the movie.

Thing #13:  This week we’ve had spirit week at school [today was PJ day and I definitely participated :) ] because next week is spring break- WAHOOO]!

Daily Memorable Moment March 29:  Running 5 miles and going on a hike with my momma!

Question:  What workout did you do today?

Question:  Have you ever seen a blue bell?  I’ve also heard them be called blue bonnets…
